As Fey'atsi and Tsireya had just fallen into a nice conversation, Lo'ak came trotting up across the platform, his expression relaxed. He asked, "Is the mighty Tey-Tey still asleep?"
"Yes, he is." Tsireya answered calmly, "Where is Spider?"
"Dad's teaching him how to use the nets." Lo'ak entered the marui, looking, before he went and stole a piece of food from Tuk who screamed at him and yanked on his tail.
The reef girl stood up and announced, "I suppose I should go. It is getting late. But I will see you again tomorrow!"
Feya gathered her poorly done top in her arms and gave Tsireya a friendly Oel ngati kameie and smiled when she received one back. Then, she turned around and headed into the marui with her supplies and neatly placed them against the wall. While Neytiri tried to control Lo'ak and Tuk's bickering, Feya stole a glance in the direction of where Neteyam slept and saw him lying flat on his back in the hammock, his head tilted to the side as he breathed heavily. The curtain that shielded off that section was pulled back so there was a clear opening. Even tough Feya knew Neteyam was okay, the sight of his swollen eye, his wrapped-up shoulder, the cuts and bruises all along his body, and his casted arm made her heart wrench with guilt. To her, he never deserved any of that.
Fey'atsi felt a gentle hand on her shoulder. After she had made her other children calm down and stop hissing at one another, Neytiri stopped to speak to Feya. "Go wake him up for me, will you? I don't want him sleeping for so long because of his head."
Feya immediately nodded her head at the woman's suggestion, because of course this was Neytiri and she wasn't going to hesitate to do what she asked. But she didn't want to bother or somehow injure Neteyam further when she woke him up. Either way, she ignored her thoughts and entered the section of the marui where Neteyam slept and tried not to act weird about it.
Feya paused once she stood before the hammock that held the slumbering boy. Then, with a sigh, she reached over and grabbed one of his big toes and shook it a little. "Neteyam, wake up."
After a couple of seconds, Neteyam's eyes fluttered open at the repeated sensation of having his toes meddled with. When his disoriented gaze landed on Feya who was the one carrying out this action, his eyes shot wide and he gasped, "What are you doing?!"
She bursted out in a laugh and craned forward, her nose scrunched up in a teasing manner. "Im waking you up, skxawng!"
At first, Neteyam just stared at her, but then a wide grin broke out across his well-sculpted face. "Yes, but you didn't have to squeeze my toes!" He moved his foot away from her spitefully like she was committing some dangerous crime. "That's weird."
Fey'atsi rested her arms against the rim of the hammock and slumped forward, with her tail flitting behind her. "Me, weird? What is it you call feet? Dawgs?"
During her time at the reef with the Sully family, she took notice of the terms and phrases that they used—mostly Neteyam, Spider, and Lo'ak. With the way the brothers spoke, she could very easily tell that they were of sky-person heritage. They still had their half-human half-Omaticayan accents—although Neteyam's forest accent was much stronger than Lo'ak's—and Spider's was hardly there at all—she was stunned by the new words she learned every day. But one of the terms she most commonly heard was "Bro" and it was exchanged between the brothers daily.
"Okay, but that's funny." Neteyam retorted, leaning his head back. Then, his eyes softened. "You changed your hair."
Fey'atsi glanced down at the large braid that fell over her shoulder. Not hundreds of little individual braids, but instead one big one that contained all her locks. She'd left two beaded strands of her hair to dangle off her forehead, but the rest of her tangly waves were being held together in multiple strips of colorful cloth and beads that she'd made herself.
