When they arrived back in the village of Awa'atlu, Fey'atsi was a messy puddle of tears and sobs. She couldn't control the emotions that she so desperately wanted to control, especially in front of the Sully family, who were the actual blood relatives of the boy she was so upset over. She profusely wiped at her eyes and nose as the followed the family back to their marui.
Jake stood to the side as he watched his children, and his wife enter their oceanic home. Feya followed Lo'ak's tail, but Jake gently grabbed her arm and stopped her.
The man Fe'ya knew as Toruk Makto hesitated to say his words, but eventually he met her eyes seriously. "Listen, Feya--if you want to go home, then just say that, and I'll--"
"No," she blurted, her own protest surprising her. "I--I want to stay. For as long as you wish to have me."
Jake seemed to take in her words thoughtfully and nodded his head in confirmation. He smiled softly and gestured for her to go inside, his hand guiding her into the dim light of the marui. Tuk was already embracing her siblings with a ferocious excitement and relief--so did Spider, who looked the happiest to see Kiri safe and unscathed. She looked equally happy to see him.
Fey'atsi kind of stood around, unsure of what to do. Neteyam was always the one who she interacted with day and night. Without him, she felt awkward. But when Tuktirey came running up to her, Feya didn't hesitate to hold Tuk lovingly and laugh. "Oh, I've missed you, Tuk-Tuk!" she exclaimed, the little girl giggling.
Then the seven-year-old pulled away, the childish glow in her eyes vanishing. Her ears and her tail drooped as the asked in no more than a whisper, "Where is Neteyam?"
Feya's heart sank to the depths of her stomach. Lo'ak looked off into the distance and crossed his arms, trying to appear tough, but everyone could see the tear streaks that stained his face. Kiri was holding Spider's hand as the human boy noticed the same thing, his expression dulling with disappointment.
"Oh, Tuk." Neytiri breathed.
"We, uh, we weren't able to get him this time." Jake crouched down and took his daughter's hand, shaking it a little. "But were going to rescue him tomorrow."
Immediately Tuk's face crumbled into one of the most pitiful expressions Feya had ever seen. She watched as Tuk threw herself into her father's embrace and sobbed against his shoulder, her echoing cries touching everyone's hearts. Jake shushed her and rocked her back and forth, but she still cried and cried.
That night, the background noise of the marui was Jake and Neytiri trying to console their youngest daughter. Back in the forest Na'vi families slept together in giant hammocks that could hold everyone--when the Sully family moved to the reef, they managed to have two hammocks--one for the siblings and one for the parents, considering one large hammock wasn't able to hang in the oceanic marui. Instead of with her siblings, Tuk stayed with her parents tonight.
Lo'ak, Kiri, Fey'atsi , and Spider were each sprawled out in their hammock, not a single pair of eyes closed. Fe'ya could see two sets of golden eyes wide open in the darkness--including her own--because none of them could fall asleep. Spider was awake, too, but she couldn't see his dark brown eyes as easy as she could see her fellow Na'vi's eyes.
The feeling was mutual among the four teenagers. As essential member of their posse was missing, and nobody could sleep without him. None of the Sully children could get comfortable knowing that their big brother wasn't asleep in the middle of the pile, and Feya could only imagine where he was or what was happening to him.
