Mama just killed a man.

Could this be the case?

Out of nowhere, Lo'ak, Kiri, Spider, Tsireya, and Fey'atsi came rushing in, sopping wet from the rain. Tuk was perched on Feya's shoulders, getting a birds-eye view of her injured brother. Her eyes shone with eagerness.

"Daddy, it's Neteyam!" she squealed, pointing at him. "Why does he have a tube coming out of him? Who are these people?"

Each one of the kids were seeming at the teeth to see him, all clamoring over one another and moving each other's heads out of the way. Spider was beneath all of them, getting pushed around the most. "Guys, watch out!" he complained, shoving their legs and their middle.

"Shut up, midget." Lo'ak remarked, "Neteyam's back."

"Yeah, I know, you skxawng. I'm trying to see him."

The two boys proceeded to fight playfully, unaware of Neytiri stalking towards them. Jake's wife clipped both of them on the ear, "Boys!" she hissed, "What are you doing?"

They instantly calmed down, placing their hands behind their backs resentfully. Tsireya placed a hand over her mouth and giggled, followed by the other girls.

Viper was watching them with quite a skeptical, judgmental look on his face. He was curious at the same time. Slowly, as he read each of them, his condescending gaze found Feya's frame and his eyes didn't avert. Jake made a mental note in his mind that this was likely going to cause some tension sooner or later between him and Neteyam if he was ever caught looking at her like that.

Jake noticed all of it.

"We wanted to see Neteyam," replied Lo'ak after a second, "we want to know what happened."

Neytiri looked at all of them. "You cannot all see him at the same time. He is asleep. Go back to the marui, please. We'll bring him later."

"Wait," Tonowari called, "Tsireya, Sully children, show our visitors where they can stay. Make sure they have a warm place to sleep, and a spacious home." He looked at the newborn baby in Txana's arms, "Warm blankets, and a baby's bassinet."

Eager and exited, the teenagers helped the newcomers gather their things and led them out of the pod, all the younger kids loping along like wild dogs, clumsy and loose-limbed. Only viper was composed and mannerly, looking at his fellow teens like they were aliens. He especially looked at Spider with a confused frown.

Jake's attention turned back to Ronal, who patted Neteyam's leg. "He is very injured right now. He will not be able to move around easily with his broken ribs. His eye will heal eventually, but his head might take weeks to recover. Considering he has a broken shoulder and a broken arm; he won't be able to use them efficiently. Not yet."

The marui was now empty of recoms. Jake sighed heavily, his chest feeling weighed down. Tonowari was watching his forest comrades with an empathetic expression, although medicine was not his area of expertise. He stayed quiet while his wife spoke.

"Give him this for the pain," Ronal said, handing Neytiri a pouch full of maroon-colored spices. "You can put it in his food or water. Just makes sure he swallows it somehow."

"He's gonna be pissed when he wakes up." grumbled Jake, already dreading the moment Neteyam would realize he wasn't going to be able to use his arms proficiently. His eldest already hated feeling useless, although he acted happy about any issue that was thrown at his face. But Jake knew this would make him mad.

"You should take him home now." Tonowari was unraveling a stretcher like framework that had a firmly woven net between two long wooden sticks. "So that when he does wake up, he is familiar with what his eyes see."
