The "great mongrel" army, as those loyal to the usurper king called it, were pushing into the kingdom.
You, out of some misplaced loyalty to the usurper king and/or his successors, were in one of these battles. You come across the banished heir, and fight them. You had great skill but were still no match. You are knocked on your back, unconscious.
They are impressed by you, and so capture you instead of kill you, in order to bring you into their army (or use you as their plaything)
