Like all these years, the tradition of Raksha Bandhan starts with all of the family members gathered in the small 'mandir' at our house. The first auspicious thread of protection i.e. rakhi, me and Muskaan tie is to Kanha ji. I start with putting tilak on his forehead with a few rice seeds. I take the smaller rakhis I bought and tie it around Kanha ji's wrist. Touching his feet, I take some rose petals and put them near his feet. I take the kheer and feed him a little. After I am done with it, it's Muskaan's turn to repeat the process.

The rakhi we tied is a symbol of our trust in him, that he will always protect us like a brother.

When we are done with this tradition, we all ascend towards the living room, where all the remaining rituals will be done.

Shaurya bhai and Meera bhabhi sit on the couch with papa and maa on the opposite sofa. Muskaan holds the tray which was dedicatedly organised by me. I take the tilak on my ring finger and apply it on my bhaiya's forehead, elongating it with my thumb. I pinch a small amount of rice seeds and stick them on the wet tilak before showering some above him. All this time bhai has his hand above his head. I picked up the special rakhi I especially selected for him.

Shaurya bhaiya puts his hand with a closed fist which has some rice seeds and a coin, in front of me. I tie the rakhi on his wrist and spread the end of my dupatta under his fist. He drops the rice and coin onto it which I tie securely afterwards. I feed him the kheer and kajju katli (his most favourite). In return he feeds me too. I touch his feet and he hugs me tightly making me feel that he is always with me. I turn towards Meera bhabhi and apply tilak on her forehead as well, without elongating it. According to tradition, she doesn't drop the coin and rice seeds, rest all things remain the same. Instead of tying a thread-rakhi, I made her wear a bracelet.

I put my hand in front of bhai and bhabhi grinning like a fool. Bhai as usual giggles and shakes his head before taking his wallet out. He keeps fifty-one hundred on my palm whereas bhabhi gives me a wrapped gift. My grin widens as I launch myself on him. I hug him so tightly that he starts laughing.
