"Don't be," Jason shrugged, pulling into his driveway. "It's true. I never liked my parents. My dad hated me, and after Ali was born, my mom abandoned me for her. Both my dad and my mom loved Ali. I was the outcast. The unwanted, unloved child. Part of me wonders if that's why we got into drinking. We never had parents who loved us."
"Maybe," she nodded. "I'll stay with you." She decided.
"Thank you," he said, letting out a sigh of relief.
-
That night was awful for her. She stayed in the guest bedroom (the mattress was very nice), and even though she was nowhere near Jason, she still dreamed about him. If that was how it was gonna be every night of staying with him, she'd hands down take that motel room.
"Hey, what are you doing?" Jason asked once he was downstairs. Isabel was looking through the newspaper for jobs. If she could get one, she could rent an apartment, and be out of his house.
"Looking for a job," she replied, flipping a page. "There aren't many options, huh?"
"No. Have you tried this new place called 'the Brew?'" he suggested, sitting down at the table. He pointed to an ad for it.
"'Now hiring'. Interesting. I might look into that," Isabel read, nodding. Suddenly, her phone beeped. Hanna wanted her to come over. "Hey, would you mind dropping me at Hanna's?"
"Okay," Jason smiled, getting up again.
-
"Hey, Isabel," Hanna greeted when she opened her door. She looked around and saw Jason drive off. "Ooh, what's that about?"
"That? Oh, nothing. He was just driving me here. Car's in the shop," Isabel lied, blushing way too much.
"Nothing? Your cheeks would beg to differ," Hanna teased. "You're totally crushing on him."
"No, I'm not," Isabel huffed, walking into the kitchen.
"No, you're so crushing on him! You're red as a tomato!" Hanna said gleefully as she followed Isabel into the kitchen.
"Who? Mike? We all know that," Aria chuckled.
"No," Hanna grinned. "Jason."
"What?" Spencer scoffed. "Isabel, he's-"
"'Bad news,' right?" Isabel snapped. "I've known him forever, Spence. We've been over this."
"Wha- what about you, Aria?" Spencer stammered helplessly.
"I say, Isabel should be with whoever she wants," Aria shrugged.
"Thank you to the one person in this house who'll let me date whoever," Isabel said loudly, and Aria beamed.
"Hey, what about me?" Hanna huffed.
"You want me to date Jason only," Isabel pointed out. "Who I'm not crushing on, by the way. Just... crashing at his place."
