"It will be alright, child. Just relax your mind."
"You are not much older than me, you know."
"Well, how old are you, then?"
Neteyam kept his head buried between his arms. "Fifteen years old."
She clicked her tongue. "Hmm. I'm Eighteen. Three years is a big difference, I think."
Neteyam hummed in response as he allowed his to mind drift away to the places that were engraved in his brain. The trees of the forest and the music of the Omatikayn people. His brothers and sisters all playing together and roughhousing--his parents, chatting among each other as they watched their children play. Himself, joining his siblings in their frolicky activities but also simply watching from the sidelines, not speaking a word.
Iwa appeared back into the room holding a small plastic container filled with a yellowish substance, and a spoon, Neteyam believed it was called. He'd never really desired to use one, although he did once when he was little, but his lab friends and Uncle Norm used the utensils constantly.
After peeling a thinner plastic paper off the top, Iwa handed Neteyam the cup and the spoon. The tangy, but sweet scent filled his nostrils and reminded him of the fruits that grew among the plants and fauna of the forest. He kindly thanked Iwa before he began eating whatever the stuff was.
"Tell us about your life, Neteyam." Linayin encouraged him, "You said Jake Sully is your father?"
"Yes. Toruk Makto." He said the last part with a bit of amusement. "My life is happy--I am blessed. I have a loving family and peace." He paused, "Well, we used to have peace. War is not very peaceful." He looked down, feeling the immense sorrow that war and death brought upon his life. "Where is that demon, anyway? He's the one that took me here."
"He left to go back to Biridgehead City. He doesn't spend a lot of time here. He wasn't sure what to do with you, so he left you with us." Iwa added, "You kind of ruined our plans, buddy. We were planning on getting out of this place today."
"Don't let me stop you! Just take me along and I'll go find my family." He stopped, scowling, "How long have you been living here?"
"Our whole life. We were kidnapped as children for some RDA project long ago--but they cancelled it. A couple months ago, we made a plan to leave and start a new life on this exact date." Linayin laughed, "Then you were dropped off, and we had to help you out."
Neteyam picked through the foreign objects that were assorted across the table, his tail swiping through the air as he processed her information. This shed a whole new light on the situation he was in. These people were victims of the RDA's cruelty too. Another one of their secrets had been discovered and was now floating about in the universe, waiting to be taken action upon.
As he was mulling this over in his mind, another woman entered the large experimental room. Her hair was straight and long, her body tall, and there was a newborn baby cuddled in her arms. Her eyes brightened as her gaze landed on Neteyam, who was up and moving, and her ears perked in happiness. "Iwa, you didn't tell me he was awake!"
Neteyam's alert gaze rested on the baby for a few long moments. The newborn reminded him of his family, and his home, before his throat squeezed up in sadness and he tore his eyes away.
The woman approached him carefully as if she were walking on glass shards. He stood still, allowing her to do what she wanted, but she simply smiled and told him her name, Txana, before she stroked her baby's fuzzy head. "I'm so happy you're alright. I was really worried something would go wrong."
