joão and y/n were sitting together in the living room joão's hotel room provided. the fire place was on, lights were dimmed down, and y/n was laying on one of the couches. joão was sitting on the other couch while watching a marvel movie the tv was playing.
after the intimate hug they shared, things were really quiet between them. y/n was on her phone the whole time to avoid the awkwardness between them. joão didn't doubt the fact that it became awkward but he didn't know how to fix it either.
every few seconds joão would glance at y/n to see what she was doing. joão cleared his throat hoping y/n would say something.
"joão, i'm leaving tomorrow morning. my manager already bought the plane tickets."
"what?" joão's head quickly turned to look at her. he raised his eyebrows, "really?"
"yeah" y/n lowered her phone making eye contact with him. "i'm sorry if things between us are awkward. i hope we can still talk to each other the way we did before."
"of course," joão nodded, feeling unsure about what was happening between them.
they had nothing else to say to each other anymore.
"it's getting late. i still need to pack before my flight."
"do you need me to help? i don't mind." joão sat up straight, expecting her to accept his help.
y/n smiled, "no thank you. it's okay, i've got it."
y/n started to grab her things and put on her hoodie before leaving his hotel room. with a sad expression, joão watched her grab her belongings. he couldn't believe their relationship had come to this. were they meant to stay as friends?
joão waved goodbye to her before y/n closed the door. he buried his face into the palm of his hands in disappointment.
