chapter twenty-four.

"You know what happened after you all left." Veronica began to explain while pacing. "I made a deal with Mikael to save my home, I lied to him about where you were going, and he took me with him after faking my death."

"You told us this." Matthias told her and they could tell that he was on edge.

Veronica waved him off. "Yes, yes." She ran a hand down her face. "I went back once I had escaped Mikael, they said that Viviane and her mother Ana, had died in a fire. I was so heartbroken as they were like family to me and so I eventually met a vampire that turned me, and I shut it all off."

"So, you didn't know that she was alive?" Bonnie asked her with a frown. "How is that possible?"

"I don't know." Veronica sighed. "I didn't have emotions for maybe a century and when I turned them back on, I simply moved on at that point. I don't know why she would do this, this isn't the little girl that I know."

"We know where they are." Marcel said. "I say we rush the place, I have vampires who will help us get my siblings back."

"We can't yet." Matthias sighed while tugging at the roots of his hair. "I need Niklaus' help should this truly be Alistair but with Hope still asleep, I do not know when we can go."

Finn stepped forward and placed a hand on his shoulder. "Let me and Veronica go first." Now this had Matthias panicking and Finn could see it in his little brother's eyes. "We'll be careful, but if we can speak to Viviane and get her to release the twins then let us try."

"I can't lose you." Matthias panicked. "I know there is no white oak, but I would never forgive myself if Alistair captured you."

Finn smirked at his brother and chuckled. "You forget me brother, I am a Mikaelson too after all." Matthias opened his mouth to argue but Finn quickly snapped his neck, making the others jump at the sound.

"Finn!" Veronica gasped as her fiancée carried his brother over to the couch in his room and laid him down. "Have you gone mad?"

Finn looked down at Matthias and wore a sad smile. "My brother is slowly driving himself insane over his kids and if I can help him then I will do what I can," He explained, "but Matthias would never let me willingly go in fear of me being captured as well."

"So, you snap his neck." Marcel sighed. "He's going to be mad when he finds out you're gone."

"He'll forgive me." Finn smiled softly. "Take care of him till we return or send word."

"Be safe and you come back if anything happens." Marcel told him seriously. "I'll kick your ass for dad if you don't come back."

Finn couldn't help but laugh as he nodded his head. "Sounds like a plan." He turned to look at Veronica who was still staring at Matthias' unconscious form. "My love, we have to settle this if this is about you."

Veronica nodded her head and took Finn's outstretched hand. "Let us fix this."

After Matthias' wedding, Veronica had come clean about her past with them and while they were shocked, they were still very welcoming to the girl. She didn't expect to meet any of them again, but when she met Finn and the two began to hang out more, she couldn't help but fall for the Mikaelson man. She had fallen so unexpectedly but she didn't regret it because she was reunited with her lost friend Rebekah even if the immortal didn't remember her.

Veronica didn't know why Viviane was doing this, why she would hurt children but if this was indeed about her and their past then she would take responsibility.
