Then, Spider came waltzing along. He mostly avoided Neytiri but he helped carry some stuff back to the marui after reuniting with Neteyam and Jake.
Tonowari came down to the beach, too, and shook Jake's hand. "Brother," he said, as another lanky blue figure caught his gaze. "I am glad you have made it home safe. Who is this you have brought?"
Everyone turned their heads to look at Fey'atsi , who was still standing next to her ikran. Spider and Lo'ak nudged each other and smirked at Neteyam, wiggling their eyebrows, but Neteyam just dismissed them with a sharp look. Their naive smiles faded and Lo'ak huffed, crossing his arms.
Jake held his hand out towards the girl, "This is Feya--she's a friend of ours. Neteyam--"he paused, "We decided to bring her along. Just for a visit."
"Where is Tuk?" Neteyam asked Spider, who was standing nearby. He towered over Spider as if the human boy was a little toddler and not a sixteen-year-old kid. When he was a small child, Neteyam thought of Spider as a good friend and a playmate, but he was mostly indifferent. As he grew older, Neteyam often considered Spider as one of his baby siblings--despite being a whole year younger. It was most likely the size difference that made such a contrast--the fact that Neteyam was a warrior and Spider would probably never be, and the fact that Neteyam was at a much better maturity level than his human counterpart.
"Uh, she's still asleep. I didn't want to wake her up." Spider shifted on the balls of his heels, his toes curling in the sand. His shoulders, face, back, and his neck looked as if they were shedding skin--and the rest of him was a bright red. Sunburn, Dad called it. It wasn't a huge issue other than the stinging feeling, but if it got too bad it could cause sicknesses, he was told.
Spider looked up at Neteyam, "You look like you should be asleep, too."
Neteyam hummed in response, averting his gaze towards the lapping waves of the shallows. Spider was completely right--Neteyam did look ready for a long, peaceful nap. Eventually, he nodded towards Feya and gestured for her to follow him, "C'mon, I'll show you where we stay."
Out of nowhere, a small blue figure came dashing across the beach. She slammed into Neteyam's legs and hugged him tightly, her little features scrunching up. "Neteyam!"
After recovering from the force of his little sister's giant hug, Neteyam smiled and stroked Tuk's big ears, "Ah, Tuk-Tuk. I thought you were asleep."
She bounced up and down as her round, innocent eyes turned up to face him. "I was, but then I saw you! Are you better now? Will you be able to play?"
Neteyam's heart surged with love for his baby sister. He never realized how much he missed his siblings until he was away for so long, and seeing them, especially seven-year-old Tuktirey was almost enough to make him do anything they wanted for three days straight. Which had happened before, and it was a nightmare.
He laughed a little, "Of course, I will. You could never stop me!" He bent down to tickle her stomach, making her to wriggle away as she shrieked. She pushed his hands away and stepped back, giggling. "No!"
Feya stood by his side, her golden eyes thoughtful and her expression warm. She smiled at Tuk's reaction to being tickled. Then, Neytiri stepped forward and placed her hand on the girl's shoulder. She had some of her bags and packs hanging off her arm. "Let's go, children. It has been a long night, and I would like you both to get some rest."
Tuk held on to Neteyam's hand as they walked towards their oceanic home.
Neteyam felt he had never slept better.
