𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐲𝐧𝐧𝐞 𝐳𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐮𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐳𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐧 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐰𝐨𝐨𝐝'𝐬 𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐞 before pulling up the hood as they got out the car. Lockwood immediately came over to her and grasped her hand tightly, "you ready for this?"

Every part of her was telling her to run, run for her life, grab the other three and run. But she couldn't. They needed this case and she wasn't going to abandon her team. She wasn't going to jump out a window and leave them, if they went down they went down together.

She nodded slowly and Lockwood stopped them so she was facing them, "we've got you."

"I know."

He kissed the back of her hand before allowing them to walk through the door behind Ellie with the other two behind them. George was warning Lucy about hesitating at the door and Carolynne could help but feel familiar with it.

"Welcome to Combe Carey Hall. You're late," Mr Fairfax said from the top of some stairs. At the sight of him Carolynne moved closer into Lockwood's side and he squeezed her hand in return. Mr Fairfax seemed even taller and thinner (a lot like a mantis in her opinion) than what she'd remembered; the cloth of his dark-grey suit hung off his wasted limbs in empty folds. "Now drop your bags and hurry up, please. The sun's going down." He then walked away into the house, his stick tapping on the flagstone floor.
