CHAPTER 4 - Errands

ELLA

I woke up from the whooshing sound of rain. When I looked outside my window, it was raining. Great. I quickly went to get ready for my school as I was already late and I have to drive slowly because of this rain again. I wore my blue checkered skirt and white shirt. I really liked my blue skirt because it was shorter and came above my knee. In my previous school, I had to wear skirt below my knees because mummy thought that longer skirt could be worn for years but here it was the rule to wear skirt of a certain length. I pulled my hair up and made a pony tail.

I went to my kitchen and thought for five minutes what I was eating for breakfast. Then I suddenly remembered that I had some left over potato. So, I took out the bowl and a packet of bread from fridge and after making sandwiches I put them in my griller. Till then I wore my shoes. I ran towards my Scooty, almost tripping over the slippery pathway, and rode to my school.

I wasn't able to sleep last night due to the change of place and I was also wondering what would happen the next day. When I had reached my school, it was still raining. I didn't even had an umbrella instead I had a raincoat. The kind of coat those 2nd grade children used to wear. They looked cute but I was going to look like a freaking five years old which was not good at all. But to save myself from drenching, I had got no other choice. I swiftly wore my transparent raincoat and ran towards the corridor. The second I was safe, I removed it. I went to my classroom. I saw that everyone was having partners except a girl. She was sitting alone. I moved near her and asked her if I could sit there. She was the same girl from Mathematics. Her name was Ira Singhania. We discussed Math and other subjects.

Later, a new girl entered the classroom. She had the same height as me and our skin color was also identical. Her hair were shorter than me but longer than that of Ira. Ira was a fair colored girl, had quite short hair and was also as tall as me. The new girl sat with us and introduced herself as Samyukta.

"Samyukta...Are you new here?" asked Ira.

"Hey! Call me Sam."

"Okay...Samyukta looked too long", I approved

"No. I am not new here. I have been studying here since 8th standard."

"Oooo", both of us reacted.

After that we discussed about the work and told Sam what she had missed till now. The rest of the periods went normal. Mrs. Martin was our class teacher which was a satisfactory news to us. It was time for my optional subject period so I proceeded towards the room. I went inside and saw that Aryan and Ira had already taken their seats. I also took mine. I waited for him to come but he never did. I thought that maybe he had bunked the class. I didn't get time to go to library that day. When school was over, I went to the canteen. I was looking around hoping to see him anywhere but I couldn't. I took my coffee and moved to my Scooty. While I was going out, I couldn't stop myself from peeking into the PCB section. To my disappointment, Saaransh was not there as well. He must be absent.

I sat on my Scooty and after drinking my coffee, I headed back to my home. I was a little tired so I rushed to my room and jumped to my bed and dozed off.

When I woke up after one hour, I remembered I had to go for grocery shopping. So, I got up and stood in front of my cupboard and tried to decide what to wear. I couldn't come up with a good option so I just snatched a pair of joggers and an oversized tee. As the store was near, I preferred walking rather than riding. The weather was really nice and pure. I made it to the store in fifteen minutes. The store was quite big which assured me that I could get everything I needed here only. I quickly picked all the essentials from vegetables to cereals and pulses, sauces, packets of bread and toiletries. For me cheese was a must so I had to buy two packets of cheese cubes and slices as well. I also picked some packets of chips and coke bottles because I was going to need them because of my laziness.

After one and a half hour later, I was finally at home. I sat on my laptop and opened my E-mail for the first time. There were three emails from my Mom and few were from my relatives.

I opened my mom's first email. It was received yesterday at 2:46pm. It said:

Hey beta!

How are you? Have you enrolled till now? Did you face any problem? How was your first day at school? What kind of people did you met? How's Nanital? Beautiful? Are you eating well? Please beta, eat well. Now that you are far away from us, take care of yourself. I didn't want you to leave in the first place and neither did your father. But we couldn't even deny your request after you have scored that good marks in your boards.

Do tell me about your new friends. Do you met any nice boy? Update me as soon as you get a boyfriend.

Dad says Hi!

The second email was of yesterday's received at 9:20pm.

Hello Ella.

Write as soon as possible beta. I am waiting. Well...we are waiting. Your favorite cousin and your sister are also with me.

Bye

The third email was of today's. Time was 3:15pm.

Hi

Enough is enough Ella. Write to me the very moment you receive this.

I started writing to her before she could come all the way to Nanital just to slap my sorry ass.

Hey Mom!

Don't freak out . I was busy doing my homework. I had to go grocery shopping as well and clean the house. I have enrolled myself. I went to school yesterday. It was good. I made two new friends and they are nice. I am eating well. I cooked Aloo ka Paratha last night.

And NO. I might have met some nice guys but I am not making any boyfriend here. You know me. These things freak me out. And I love here. The library at school is massive .

I'll write to you again soon. Say my hi to papa and everyone.

I wrote BYE and pressed send.

I had to complete my work. I had received a story yesterday that I had to edit. After I was done with all my work, I went to my room, listened to music and fell asleep.

My second day in Nanital was over.
