I never realized any of this until now, How could I have been so oblivious? I feel so stupid. It was right in front of my fucking eyes the whole time!
Coach Paige must've realized that I was getting more frustrated by the second because she quickly started to comfort me.
"Don't beat yourself up Sky, There's no way that you could've figured out what was going on. No one else seemed to have a clue" She said, in a soft voice.
"Where are we going?" I asked, not sure where her base was and not wanting to stay on that topic any longer.
"Not far, the base is in a city about 10 more miles away from here. We'll be there soon."
I stared out the window and my mind drifted off to my sister again. "Where is my sister? is she at the base already?"
"She should be by now, don't worry she's completely fine."
I couldn't help but doubt that "fine" was the correct term to describe how she probably was. If she is feeling anywhere close to how I feel right now then she is nowhere near "fine".
Suddenly the van stopped and I realized that we had stopped in front of a huge mansion in what looked like a very rich neighborhood with tons of other mansions in it. I guess this is where the base is.
I stepped out of the car and followed coach Paige and the burly man, who still hasn't been introduced to me yet, Into the huge mansion. The second Coach Paige opened the door you could hear the sound of someone screaming.
"Wait a second, that sounds like..."
As soon as I realized that that was the sound of Maddie screaming I took off sprinting towards where It was coming from with Coach Paige on my heels.
I followed the sound down the hallway and up the staircase at the end of it. Her screams kept getting louder and I was starting to panic. "WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING TO HER, YOU SAID WE WERE SAFE HERE" I shouted as I kept running towards Maddie.
I didn't hear a reply and turned around for a split second, and noticed that Coach Paige wasn't following me anymore.
I reached the end of the long hallway at the end of the stairs and reached the room that Maddie's screams were coming from.
I shoved the door open and tried to comprehend the sight in front of me. Maddie was screaming, backed into a corner by two rather large men who looked like they were trying to give her something? I couldn't see around the men to see what they were trying to give to her.
The second Maddie locked eyes with me she pushed past the men an ran into my arms. She had stopped screaming and was now uncontrollably sobbing into my chest.
"Shh it's okay baby girl, I'm here now. You're safe. Everything's gonna be okay." I whispered to her, as she kept sobbing.
I looked up at the men who had turned around now, revealing what they were trying to give Maddie that made her so upset. One of them was holding a shot and the other was holding a stuffed horse. Great. There was nothing else in the world that she was afraid of more than horses and needles.
*flash back*
I was at the stables, getting my horse ready for my riding lesson. I had started just 3 months ago and my instructor say's I'm the best 13 year old rider she's ever seen.
"Maddie!" where is she? I told her that if she wanted to come to my lesson that she had to stay where I could see her.
"BOO!" she yelled as she snuck up behind the horse and I, scaring us both. She was still behind the horse when she yelled, and the horse not being able to see what was behind it, kicked and sent her sailing right into the horse that was right behind us.
