chapter 3

Start from the beginning

"It's alright. Ross doesn't really speak to anyone unless they're friends. So don't worry, my brother won't let that bully come close to you." Luna assured him before looking at Ross.

"What are you still doing here? Bring him to the clinic now." She said and her eyes were saying something else.

Ross only nodded in response. He could tell Cayden and Luna are trying to buy more time to themselves alone.

"Come on friend. Let's take him to the clinic." Ross muttered and helped the boy with him. Beckoning a suspicious Wan to follow.

"They like each other. I know it. I'd bet a million on it." Wan sheepishly laughed as they made their way out of the canteen.

They were quiet on their way until they arrived. The nurse immediately tended to him. She gave him a cold compress first and after it he bandaged his hand and told him to take precautions.

They walked back to the canteen and spotted the two already laughing at each other as they talked.

"See? Give my friend some time. Maybe three weeks or a month because he's such a coward. He will ask her out then." He chuckled. "Don't you agree kid?" He added and turned to the boy behind them but he was already gone.

Ross turned around too and looked around the canteen but the boy was nowhere to be found now.

"Forget it! I'm starving. Let's just eat. I'm sure he'll come around." Wan said and tapped his shoulder. Pulling him back to their seat so they can eat.

_____

The class ended around 5pm. Everyone was given 3 hours at least to leave the school premises before they all go back before the curfew of 8:30. It will be enough time to go to their desired destinations. Study in libraries. Make out at the make out spot. Whatever they plan in 3 hours.

But since it was the first day of school. Not everyone went to hang out. Since they still haven't sorted out their luggages so some students went straight to the dormitories instead.

And Steel is one of those students.

He went back to their dorm so he can start arranging his things. When he got back. The foreign kid is already there. He was also sorting out his things but he finished quickly since he doesn't have much.

"Hey." Steel managed to finally call him after so much contemplating.

He had made it clear to himself not to cause himself any trouble. And if better, to not make any friends at all.

But he was there. When the boy was bullied by Cullen. He wanted to step in but Ross did first. And then Cayden.

But he wasn't sure Ross will be their roommate since there's still another spot in their room. And Cayden is friends with the bullies even though he doesn't hang out with them.

The boy will be a dead meat, especially because Cullen and Jairo are his roommates.

Steel had a friend who was bullied. They tried to do everything they could to keep the bullies away and even filed a restraining order. But they stopped at nothing until his friend gave up. They followed him every time he ran to hide. They wouldn't leave him alone.

Until one day. Steel's friends decided he doesn't wanna keep up with it anymore. That he doesn't wanna be a toy to play with by those bullies.

So he stood on a railway and waited until the train hit his body until he was nothing more but chunks of bloody body pieces.

Steel was so depressed at that time. He felt most at fault because as a friend, he did nothing out of fear he might be bullied too. So he did everything he could to help his friend's family until the bullies were put to jail for good.

But since then, Steel didn't bother making friends and everyone in their town looks at him as the worst because he only watched until his friend died. And that scared him so he preferred to become alone until he decided to move somewhere else. Ima's apartment.

And seeing the boy. It brought back fresh memories. Not because he saw him getting bullied. But because he's just standing there and watching. Again.

It haunted him until the class ended. And it's what helped him to finally approach the boy.

"I'm Steel. Steel Denver." He said as he sat beside the boy on his bed. He put down the book he was reading and looked at the smaller male.

The boy is a bit taller than him. He looks very young and Steel could easily tell that he will still grow taller.

"I-I'm Rasmus…" the boy said and slowly closed the book. Sensing that Steel will say more than just his name.

"Listen. I'm gonna be straightforward with you. I saw you earlier. And I felt bad I wasn't able to help. Cullen and Jairo are our roommates. And I figured you'll need someone by your side so they don't torture you in your sleep." He said with a blunt face.

Rasmus only blinked his eyes rapidly. "T-that's really straightforward…" he said and looked away again. Lowering his head. "I-It's fine. I can handle myself." He said a bit quietly.

"Yeah? And how is that going for your hand huh?" Steel chuckled as he scanned the thick bandage on Rasmus' right hand. "Your girlfriend will be worried if he sees more injury on you everytime you walk out of this room." He said and Rasmus immediately looked at him with wide eyes and flushed cheeks.

He's quite cute.
Steel thought.

"I-I don't have a girlfriend." He said and bit his lip as he looked away.

"Oh yeah? Don't lie to my face. Why else would you have hickies on your neck?"
