While waiting for Diego in my study, I couldn’t help but pace anxiously. I wondered what was taking him so long. Today’s events had shaken me to the core; I had never been so terrified in my entire life. Seeing the fear in Liliana’s eyes had deeply affected me. It reminded me of the inherent danger that comes with our way of life.

As I heard the door open, I turned to see Diego walking in. Suppressing my frustration, I asked, “Where were you?”

“Apologies, boss. I was trying to gather more information on the person who was chasing you and Liliana,” Diego replied.

Rubbing my forehead, I paused and looked at Diego. I was eternally grateful for his loyalty and friendship. After all, we had been friends for over a decade.

Diego and I left the office, continuing our conversation, when suddenly Mrs. Scott, my housekeeper, emerged from the utility room, surprising both of us.

“Mr. Knight, I didn’t see you there,” Mrs. Scott acknowledged.

“Hello, Mrs. Scott,” I greeted her.

“I heard about what happened. Are you and Liliana alright? It has been quite some time since you last visited here,” she remarked.

“Yes, we are fine, thank you. We decided to come here to lay low for a few days. I appreciate you taking care of the place,” I responded.

Mrs. Scott nodded and smiled, asking, “Would you like to discuss the dinner arrangements for tonight?”

Glancing at her, I remembered that I had a cook employed here. Flashing a smile, I replied, “Not at the moment. I will consult with Liliana later to determine her preferences for dinner.”

Mrs. Scott nodded and left without saying another word.

“I want you to find them, Diego, at any cost. I need to know who it was. If you come across any leads, please let me know,” I instructed.

“Of course, boss. On a separate note, Liliana proved herself today. She handled the pursuit like a professional,” Diego remarked.

I couldn’t help but smile, saying, “She did incredibly well. I am truly proud of her.”

Indeed, Liliana surpassed all expectations. She was nothing like her late parents or her sister Savannah. She was so much more than that. I couldn’t help but feel an intense fondness for her.

“Alright, I will leave now and start coordinating with Marcel to analyse whatever information we have. He will reach out to you once he finds something,” Diego assured me.

Nodding in acknowledgment, I shook his hand before giving him a heartfelt hug. Expressing my gratitude, I returned to my office and settled into my chair.

I heard someone walk into the office. Looking up, I noticed Liliana’s concerned expression as she entered. Despite being on the phone with Marcel, I made sure to show that my annoyance was not directed at her in any way.

“So you can’t enhance it further?” I asked, focusing my gaze on the computer screen in front of us.

I was putting in a lot of effort to figure out who the blurry figure in the photo might be. Unfortunately, Marcel’s software and the old cameras only allowed for limited improvements.

As Liliana approached me, her footsteps softly echoed on the wooden floor. I turned my chair to face her, feeling perplexed about her presence in my office.

Without saying a word, Liliana crawled into my lap, surprising me and raising my eyebrows in astonishment.

She embraced me, wrapping her arms around my neck, seeking comfort. In response, I wrapped an arm around her, holding her close to my chest.
