चल निकलते जो मय पिए होते
maiñ uñheñ chheṛūñ aur kuchh nah kaheñ
chal nikalte jo mai piye hote
I would tease her, and she would say nothing
She would have shown some response (either flirted or abused the lover) if she had drunk wine. Under the influence of wine she would have given some reaction.
क़हर हो या बला हो जो कुछ हो
काश के तुम मिरे लिए होते
qahr ho yā balā ho jo kuchh ho
kāsh-ke tum mire liye hote
whether you are a calamity, or are a disaster, whatever you are
if only you were for me!
The lover is willing to accept all his beloved's shortcomings if she becomes his.
मेरी क़िस्मत में ग़म गर इतना था
दिल भी या-रब कई दिए होते
merī qismat meñ ġham gar itnā thā
dil bhī yā rab kaʾī diye hote
If there was so much grief in my destiny, Oh God you should have given me several hearts to bear it.
Meaning one heart is not enough to bear all this pain and suffering.
आ ही जाता वो राह पर 'ग़ालिब'
कोई दिन और भी जिए होते
ā hī jātā vuh rāh par ġhālib
koʾī din aur bhī jiye hote
She would have agreed to love him back (accept his love), if only he had managed to live a little longer!
On the verge of death the lover does not wants to accept that he failed to woo his beloved. If he had more time he would have won her heart.
