Part 3 - The Truth, Crushes, and Other Things that are Scary

Start from the beginning

Pearl: You're being a little too overprotective and-

Brooke: Shh, I see them. I want to hear what they're about to say. (They spot Coral and V in the distance.)

Coral: V... what's this?

V: It's- what I've been hiding from everyone. (She goes up to him and reaches for the tattoo.)

Coral: This, this is Octavio's mark! How, why, what... I don't understand! Why do you have it? (They sit down.)

Coral: Are you- are you loyal to Octavio? (She looks a little scared.)

V: No, I'm not loyal to him.

Coral: Then why do you have his signet?

V: I- (They talk.)

V: I guess it's easy to tell, but my name isn't really "V". It's actually... Octavio. Octavio Jr. I'm his nephew.

Coral: W-what? (Coral's surprised and V looks down, ashamed.)

Brooke: [whispered] What? (She looks angry as she watches. Pearl glances at her.)

Pearl: Wait, Brooke, where are you going? (Brooke leaves and Pearl looks back.)

Brooke: We were here for not even a minute, and I've heard enough. I just... need to think. I'll be back at the mansion. (She walks away, hiding how she's upset.)

(Pearl watches Brooke walk away, a bit worried.)

Coral: There's no way you're Octavio's nephew! You're way too young for that to be possible! And let's address the elephant seal in the room... you're an inkling! It's impossible!

V: Yeah, I know it sounds crazy. but it's the truth.

Coral: I- I don't understand.

V: Well, I can explain everything to you. It might sound a little weird, but I promise you, I'm telling the full truth. (They talk.)

V: I've heard some people tell me about my birth, so that's how I know all this. Before the war split our species apart, Octavio had a sister. And during the war, she had me.

Coral: But that would make you, like, a hundred years old!

V: I guess, but something happened. (He looks down.)

V: Most octolings don't survive after giving birth to their first child, especially back then. That happened to my mom. I guess I would've then lived with my father, but no one knew who he was. So, my uncle was supposed to take care of me. (He speaks.)

V: But at the time, Octavio had just become king, and he had a war to deal with. Maybe he thought he was just too busy to be a parent, I don't know. But he didn't want to take care of me, that much I know. (He crosses his arms over his legs.)

V: I've been told that my uncle had his scientists invent something that could keep me in hypersleep. That way, I would be fine on my own for a while, and when it would come close to time for a new king, Octavio would hopefully feel up to teaching me what I needed to do. (Coral listens closely.)

V: But before I was put into hypersleep, I was given this mark on my head, so that in case something went wrong and I left on my own, I could be found easily. It's not very hard to miss seeing this mark in a crowd unless it's covered. (He motions to the green X above one of his eyes.)

V: Well, my uncle's plan ended up failing. Up until eighteen years ago, I had been left in hypersleep. And the woman who brought me out of it, well, she found me by mistake. (He slightly laughs.)

V: You actually might know the woman. Doctor Nariko?

Coral: Oh, yeah, I know her. She fought us a few months ago. She was a little crazy. She was smart, but not very good at planning or being a bad guy.
