"Yia-yia before we go, I wanted to give you this. Thank you so much for having me"
Nadia translated for Riley as the blonde handed the bag over to the old woman. Inside lay a box with the beautiful straw hat that the younger had procured as her gift.
"Tank you"
With a gasp Riley looked up at Nikolai, who seemed just as surprised.
"She asked me to teach her a few words, her pronunciation is still a work in progress though"
Nadia spoke up.
"You're welcome, I'll see you guys the next time I visit"
After exchanging hugs and goodbyes they were off. It was already nighttime, and they still had to head back and pack for tomorrow as their flight was at 9 a.m.
A single tear slid down the younger's face and he quickly swiped it away, but the sniffling caught Nikolai's attention.
"Why are you crying baby?"
"I-I'm n-not"
The hiccups caused his words to come out in a stutter.
With a small sigh Nikolai reached over the console and gripped the younger's thigh, rubbing soothing circles on the exposed flesh.
"We'll come back okay; this isn't the last time you'll see them"
"I know I just, it just felt nice to be around so much positivity you know. Everyone was accepting or at least willing to understand and now I have to go back, and I don't know how I'm going to face this-"
"Hey, you're not alone in this. You have your mother, your sister, your brothers, my parents, my brother and don't forget about me. It's best to have a small circle of people who love and support you for being exactly who you are rather than being surrounded by people who want nothing more than to tear you down. You will get through this... We will through this"
Nodding the little took the larger hand in his own and kissed each knuckle as a silent thanks before putting it back on his thigh.
The rest of the ride was in a comfortable silence as both used what they assumed would be their last night of peace for a while to relax.
Upon arriving at home, they immediately took a shower together then got to packing.
Halfway through the younger's stomach began to growl.
"Hungry?"
Nikolai queried seeing the adorable blush that spread across his lover's cheeks.
"A little"
"Come on, I'll make us sandwiches"
They folded the last thing in both of their hands before heading downstairs.
Riley sat at the island and as usual watched his daddy move through the kitchen.
"I was thinking..."
The younger started.
"Yes?"
"I think I should give Samuel a call and umm meet with him after the court hearing"
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, but if you found out anything from your contact about him I'd be happy to hear it"
After thinking it over Nikolai sighed and placed the ingredients on the island so he could face Riley while they spoke.
"According to my source, Samuel Grace was in fact Samuel Frost. He got married and took on his husband's last name after cutting ties with his family. The search didn't say why he made the decision, I wanted to wait until I got more information before telling you but-"
"So, he was telling the truth"
"Yes"
"I can't believe it. Does- does my mom know about him?"
"We're not sure but given the time when he left and the time your parents met there's a possibility she doesn't know anything"
Taking a moment Riley gazed down at the ceramic counter, lost in his own thoughts.
He had a grandfather, one that for some reason kept his distance for decades and was now reaching out.
Did he want to meet this man?
What would he gain from this confrontation?
Should he speak to his mother first?
His brain swirled with thoughts, until they caused a minor headache.
With a groan he held his head in his hands.
"Hey, stop it you'll worry yourself sick"
"How can I not feel like this? I was lied to my entire life, even if the man is an ass who left his family at least I should have had the courtesy of knowing he existed"
"Maybe your father had his reasons for keeping this a secret"
"Are you on his side?"
The younger scoffed
"I'm always on your side baby, but if I was in his position and something serious really happened then I would do anything in my power to keep that person away from my family"
"So you would lie to me?"
Rolling his eyes the younger stormed upstairs, slammed the door behind him and continued to pack. Only this time he was just shoving things into the suitcase.
"Riley, stop"
Nikolai sighed as he entered the room.
The younger ignored him as he walked past his lover to enter the closet. He gathered the last of his things before walking back to the bed.
As he was passing Nikolai hugged the younger from behind to stop his movements.
"Baby stop, listen to me"
"What else would you like to say in his defense, hmm?"
"I am not trying to defend him, but we don't know what went down all those years ago. I would never, ever lie to you but we have to take the circumstances into account. I don't want you to go into that meeting with Samuel with high hopes only to be let down.
Right now, you're searching for family because the one you have has turned against you. But there's no guarantee that Samuel is a good person or that your father was completely in the wrong. I can't find anything about what happened and neither can Noah which means that there is a possibility that something really bad took place. I don't want you to be hurt anymore than you already have been"
With a long exhale all the tension left Riley's shoulders, before turning in his daddy's arms the clothes creating a gap between them.
"I'm sorry, I shouldn't have lashed out at you"
The younger mumbled sadly.
"It's okay love I know you're in a lot of pain right now, but don't push me away"
Nodding Riley quickly went to place things on the bed before holding on to his daddy.
Nikolai placed the younger on his hip then turned to head back downstairs.
He finished up the sandwiches whilst still holding his lover then they ate before heading to the couch to cuddle.
"I love you"
Riley whispered into his lover's neck.
"I love you too baby, so so much"
Raising his head the little placed his lips against his daddy's, before muttering.
"Please don't leave me"
"Never"
"Promise?"
"I promise"
Nikolai responded before connecting their lips once more.
