"Is everything okay?"
He queried seeing the frown etched unto Nikolai's face.

"Yes. Why?"

"You just- haven't said anything in the last 8 minutes and your gaze seems far off"

Though Nikolai couldn't be considered a talkative person it was still unusual of him to be dead silent when with Riley and the tension in the car was unusually thick.

"Just some issues at work it's nothing for you to worry about"

"Well, maybe it'll help to talk about it"

"It really won't"

"Bu-"

"Enough Riley, I'll sort it out just forget about it"

The tone that Nikolai had used was the one he reserved for anyone other than the blonde in his arms, thus the younger felt his chest ache at the cold words spoken to him.

With a pout he tried to pull away from the older man, but was stopped by the strong grip on his waist.

He struggled for a few moments, but gave up once he realized his efforts were futile. Instead he loosened his arms around his lover allowing them to fall against the seat.

"There's really nothing that you can do baby, if there was I would tell you"

"We're in a relationship, I'm not your business partner even if I can't fix it you- you should still be able to talk to me when something is bothering you"

"You're right, we'll talk after the party okay"

"Promise?"
He pouted raising his pinky.

With a fond smile Nikolai joined their fingers together.

"I promise"

After joining their lips for a few seconds Riley tightened his hands around his daddy once more, snuggling into his chest and taking in the mild yet expensive cologne that clung to the older.

"You smell nice"

He mumbled before flushing a bright red as he heard a low rumbling.

"I-I didn't mean to say that"

"You don't have to be embarrassed love"
Nikolai chuckled.

"St-stop laughing at me"

"You're so cute"

The car came to a stop effectively halting their moment.

Outside there were multiple reporters waiting by the door to snap photos of L.A's richest business moguls, tycoons and their children.

Every year the Frost's hosted a ball and gave to different charities. This year it was to a hospital for kids with terminal illnesses such as cancer, meningitis, neurological diseases etc.

Most of the people who came didn't actually give a shit about the charity aspect, they just wanted to look good in the eyes of the public. By the end of the night they would have thrown away hundreds of thousands of dollars for something they would forget by the end of the night.

Riley didn't really care whether they knew or not, as long as they were paying.

The car before them finally moved away and they drove up to the entrance.

"Are you ready?"

He tried to slow his erratic heartbeat.

"I-I can't do this"
