"Serenity!" Mamma urges me to come forward, her arms welcoming.

"I'm sorry, we forgot to mention the Ceraso's would be over for dinner."

I smile weakly, wrapping my arms into her hold as I face the family.

"Nice to see you all." I let my gaze travel over the family, starting with Mr Ceraso first. He gives me a welcoming nod, his face unreadable and familiar blue eyes, cold.

Elijah, on the contrary, makes a move towards me, his mouth curled up in a wide smirk as he extends his hand for me to take. My instincts take over, and I find myself staring dryly at the hand. But my mother's glare forced me to return his smile, shaking his hand quickly before he could kiss it like last time.

The smirk is wiped off his face and a look of frustration coats his eyes.

Asshole.

Next to face me was Isabella Ceraso. Again, my intuition kicks in and all I wanted to do was run away from the woman and possibly have her kicked out of my home.

But the smile she gives me even makes me question how a woman of such darkness could look at me like I was the most precious thing she's ever seen.

"Beautiful Serenity, how are you, sweetheart?" Her arms come around my shoulders lightly, her acrylic nails grazing the tips of my shoulders.

"I'm well. And you, Isabella?"

The tone of my voice was almost condescending. I tried to shake it off with a smile when she pulled away, but all I had gotten was a smile of her own, never meeting the look of her expressionless eyes.

"More than well, lovely."

The six of us travelled into the dining room, our personal maid coming around and delivering everyone a glass of wine each. I hold onto my tongue as she pours me my own drink, my gaze feathering to the person sitting opposite me.

Of course it had to be her.

Luckily both of my parents sat on either side of me, and Butterscotch decided to make an entrance into the room too.

"Oh, how sweet. Who's precious kitten is this?" Isabella looks amused at my little Carmello who decides to come over to me.

"Serenity's." Both of my parents murmur at the same time, earning a proud smile from me as I place him onto my lap.

"This is Butterscotch, my soulmate."

I hear my father scoff at my words, his gaze flickering to the cat that was now in my arms, laying flat on his stomach sprawling over my lap.

"How cute. How long have you had him for?"

My attention goes to Isabella across from me, my palms easily escorting to Butterscotch's fur in order to keep me calm and collected.
