Chapter Twenty-Nine

I can't save us.

Today we had planned a great celebration for Daemon and I's engagement

Therefore here I am picking flowers to calm my nerves "what are you doing princess?" Jackson asked now standing next to me while I knelt in a flowerbed I smiled up at him

"Picking flowers" 

"I understood that your grace" he smiled "I meant why are you doing this? I can get a maid-"

"No no don't bother them, I'm nervous" I admitted

"And the flowers help?" He asked I nodded before going back to humming "allow me to lend some assistance" he smiled and knelt down next to me

"Thank you" I returned Jackson's smile and we both continued

Celebration like this are traditional only I didn't have my mother nor father with me or alive so I needed a step in.

So here I am about to do the hardest thing I believe I will ever do.

I went to knock on Viserys door but stopped myself as Rhaenys walked out the other

"What are you doing?" The queen who never was  asked

"Struggling to even knock on my uncles door" I said plainly "is that something I shouldn't do?" I asked while looking down at my hands

"Oh sweet Daphne" she hugged me and held my hands in her own noticing how nervous I probably looked

"It is only a door, only a question and I know he won't say no but" I said as we pulled apart

"You are still scared because you know it won't be his old happy self or Rhaneyra's Mother leading you down to give her blessings" Rhaenys realised

I sighed knowing she was right "I miss her so much it feels as if I might die too" I admitted

"You will realise soon you will be as good a queen and a mother that Aemma was" She announced "you my dear are already a good woman as she was and as she is somewhere"

I nodded at her before turning back to the door this time Rhaenys knocked for me then walked off as Viserys called for me to enter

"Ah Daphne" he smiled from his seat next to the fire, the day was sunny but not extremely warm

"Hello" I waved awkwardly then stood holding my hands

"What is the matter my dear?" He asked now standing walking towards me 

"Could you maybe- I don't know" I began "does not matter apologies Uncle" I went to leave but he stopped me

"Of course I will Daphne" he smiled before embracing me in a hug

At the party.

Everything was going perfectly after I danced with daemon he seemed to disappear out of the room so I sat down waiting on him

"Aunt" James smiled

"James" I returned a smile

"May I have this dance your grace?" He asked holding his hand out

"Of course nephew" I smiled and took it

He may be a result of betrayal but he is blood.

We danced for a while laughing at small things before the doors to the hall opened

There is always something-

I was interrupted by the three guards that entered one of them held a half naked Liliana while Jackson stood in the middle and another knight held Daemon

People around me made space for the guards to move towards me and drop Liliana near my feet

"What have you-" Rhaenyra was cut off by deamon screaming gibberish clearly drunk

Rhaenyra held my arm as Alicent and Viserys moved down

Suddenly I'm back in that moment again.

"We found them together your grace" Jackson said through his teeth clearly pissed. He is a true friend always had been throughout my childhood while serving my mother but now

All that's missing is my mother.

"Daphne" Liliana smiled up at me I blinked "I wonder what it is like to lay with a man who does not love you" she laughed "not such a clean queen are you-" she was interrupted by my fist colliding with her face making Rhaenyra and Viserys laugh

"To hell with you both" I announced before looking at Liliana I knelt down to her height "the only reason you still breathe is because of your son" I told her

"And what" she spat

"I suggest you learn your place" I told her before lifting my dress for me to stand back up, I walked halfway away from them before stopping at turning back to her "you may think I owe you a kindness but I do not nor do I owe your son a kindness just remember that" and with that I left Rhaenyra running behind me along with james

James spoke first while running in front of me when we were far enough away from the hall "I apologise for my mother your grace-" he was interrupted by me pulling him into a hug to which he practically melted into

He had not received much love from his mother that was obvious considering how she acted and portrayed herself, as him and I pulled apart

Rhaenyra smiled "You are going to be an excellent mother Daph" her hand rested on my arm I nodded at her and gave her a small smile, still recovering from Daemon and Liliana's betrayal.

Today was meant to show my kingdom the strength of daemon and I's union but instead it showed his true intentions and yet I still have to marry him.

I knew what Daemon was like I knew of all the tales from when I was younger even before I was hand chosen to be his match. Daemon was ruthless, and mean and sometimes just plan cruel- no Daemon is ruthless and cruel and that just means one thing, a marriage with Daemon will either end with him choosing to love me

I laughed out loud at the thought

Daemon? Love? Seriously. That's a joke.

Daemon will never love me he can't he isn't fortunate enough to even understand the word and it's concepts and yet I am head over heels like a fool. But it means if he doesn't love me back then-

Oh no.
