I was a lost soul,
I carried daggers
in my back,
that's what you said.
In comfortable silence,
we sit and stare,
that's all we can do.

Though nobody can read
my eyes better than you
my dear.
They never knew which
lies to tell or which
birds would carry our
messages.

Wind was a tad too thin,
where it couldn't hold
its' tint any longer,
We were heard too thin,
  You always said,

  "I want to be seen."

Lastly, we lay
underneath a sky.
A moon that said,

"This is unknowing survival."

Little did we know the
gifts we'd be given at eighteen
and the losses at seventeen.

Our shadows left in the moonlight
just like our love had been.
Oh, nobody had seen us
except for now when
I place my hand on
yours and say,

"You've finally got what you wanted."

Your eyes were closed,
but I knew
people had seen us.
We'd done
something forbidden.
I held your hand in eyes
of the saddened.
