Talk of the Town

I looked at the text for complete five minutes. I am a time freak, you'd be able to tell by how I think eating is a waste of time. Five minutes is a lot of time for me to waste on looking at a stupid text.

After a lot of contemplating, a lot of writing and rewriting the text, I finally decided on going with a simple, Yes.

I mean, at first I thought I should start with the greeting, you know, Hi Dominic! How are you doing? Yes, sure I am free this afternoon.

But it sounded too much.

So, I thought to cut it to, Hi Dominic.

Yes I am free this afternoon.

Then, I thought it was still a little bit too much, sending it in two texts. It felt like I was too eager.

'Okay,' Didn't make any sense.

So, I thought to just write, Yes I am free this afternoon.

But it seemed like I was putting too much work into it. It was only morning.

So, I stuck to a simple sweet, Yes.

What could possibly go wrong with a "Yes"?

After taking a bath, I reread my short text. I sounded so lazy. More like I sounded very arrogant as if I didn't care if he had something planned or not.

I was so overthinking this.

***

School was the same as the day before. Same old boring, no fun. Turns out there was some gossip going around about me saying that I had actually been coming home from a party drunk and had gotten into an accident and had killed three people.

Another rumor said I had fell off a bridge into a river because I was drunk and had broken so many bones because of that. I wonder how they had thought I had broken bones by falling into water.

Another said that I was drunk and had jumped off a building because apparently Anthony had dumped me.

What was it with people thinking I was drunk?

And more importantly, why did they think I and Anthony had broken up? We had just received the cutest couple of sophomore year award.

They weren't that off the target, I and Anthony had grown apart. We hadn't had a proper conversating since he'd found out I was sick and dying. We weren't even acting like a couple at school anymore. I mean, everyone but Anthony was escorting me, and we weren't even talking during the classes. That was bound to attract some attention.

All the excitement from the night before about Luke asking out Veronica died down by the end of my time at school.

I was sulking when I reached home.

Apparently, my mood was very well visible on my face.

My mom opened the door and greeted me with a huge smile and spoke in her most cheery voice, 'Hi sweetheart! How was your day?'

To say that I almost had a stroke would be an understatement cause believe me, my mom didn't even smile that bright when my brother graduated, and believe me that was something big. We never thought he was going to make past middle school. My parents had made investments at ten places so he would have a source of income when he'd grow up and won't be homeless.

I knew something was different since she was smiling so wide and it didn't take me that long to realize that we had a guest.

I noticed a black Mercedes parked right beside our gate. Who did I know would own such a beauty? Who did I know had asked me if I was free on that day? Who was the one in front of whom my mom would act so obnoxiously cheery and fake?

Who, but Dominic?

Now guess who's back with a brand new chap (chapter), got everyone in the story going mad.

Sorry, was just humming 'Evacuate the Dancefloor' while writing the chapter.

If you want to know the story behind Blood Mary, a mix of fiction and reality, click on the external link below or I'll just post it in the next chapter if you don't want to read it now.

Have a good day,

Janushi
