"Did you even listen to a word I said?" Nadia who had kicked off the polythene bags around her legs and sat on the floor with her back on the bed frame said a small no.

"I said, I won't be at the Kamu as I promised. How did you translate that to me not wanting to be at the wedding? You're going to be my wife, if your plan is to stress me, you have the rest of your life to do that, In Sha Allah." Nadia burst into tears with the rest of her adrenaline that was pumping so hard.

She was barely breathing fine and had to steady herself before she asked him, "Are you sure?" Alhaji ended the call and seconds later, a video call request came through. She threw on a hijab and opened the door to her balcony, stepped unto it and shut the door.

"Look at where I am, see how I'm dressed in scrubs, I've been here all day, something very terrible happened but I don't want to bother you with it, seeing as you are so agitated, I better explain." Nadia who was feeling a lot of shame and immense embarrassment from HR behavior, she had practically accused him of jilting her.

"You can explain later, I don't know what came over me." Nadia played with the nape tie of her hijab. The embarrassed feeling was starting to fade so she focused on him and how tired he looked.

"You look so tired." Alhaji chuckled, pulled off the sterilized scrub cap from his head, rubbed his head tiredly before looking down. He rubbed his eyes when he looked back up and his free hand was empty of the cap.

"I am tired, what do I do though? I feel slightly responsible for what has occured so we'll treat the cause, then do other things. I also don't want to publicize what is happening because I do not want to have a shadow cast over our wedding," Nadia nodded like a lizard with no sense of direction, eager to make sure he knew she understood.

"Will you rest soon?" Nadia asked him, he pulled the phone down and spoke to someone in the background instead of responding to her. She heard him speak to someone about a particular patient who was now reacting well to the drugs and injection received, she also heard Alhaji respond with a relieved Alhamdulilah.

"Qurratul Ayn, I'm here. Really, there's no where I'm going to, Allah has willed this and it will come to pass. Okay? Please have a smidgen of belief in me, it doesn't have to be a lot, but I won't let you down." He raised the phone back up to say go her and Nadia nodded, feeling like a chastened child but she felt a strength come over her.

It would be as Allah Subhanahu wa ta'ala had willed it, not an inch more, not an inch less, there was not a greater power than that of her Lord.

The call ended and Nadia put down her phone, she wanted to slap herself for jumping to conclusions and hug herself as well, for she was like a child who's trust had been broken several times and was mistrustful of even the nicest efforts.

When she stepped back into the room, Sarah, UmmulKhair, Folake and Hajarah were staring at her questioningly. She chuckled in her heart, refusing to let her face say anything.

"Talk na, do you want to kill us with suspense?" Folake was the one who broke the silence.

"The wedding is still on, I jumped to conclusions." UmmulKhair swooned playfully into the bed, a testament of her fear and trepidation.
