Owen stayed with me during my shift, even after Dr. Green returned to his patients. His behavior with the babies was so sweet. He tried to play it off by saying that it wasn't worth it to leave then return later to pick me up. We both know that was a bullshit excuse; I had options for getting home. I couldn't turn him down though. He took such a liking to Fae and Flora, so who am I to send him away?

I barely got any work done with his presence. Ester was less productive than usual too. We couldn't stop watching Owen. His usual, refined structure was relaxed and silly... creating a completely new man. Both versions of himself are attractive as hell but seeing him like this was addicting. I think I drooled. When I told him my shift was over, I swear I saw him pout. POUT! His lower lip pushing out and wide eyes was something I never wish to forget. Unlike Mr. French who looked like a sea bass, Owen looked like a golden retriever puppy. I don't think anyone would believe me if I told them about it.

Eventually, we parted from the nursery, after Owen said goodbye to Fae and Flora. I couldn't keep the smile off of my face. Our walk is quiet aside from the shared hellos of other staff we passed. He leads us to Dr. Roberts office without any demand from myself. He is well aware of my patterns already. As we approach, his office door swings open, and a familiar face greets me. I freeze, along with Owen and the surprised presence.

She's still stunning. Dark green eyes and vivid black hair that slicks back down to her waist. Her signature black attire and combat boots make her look intimidating. Her smokey eyeshadow emphasizes her piercing glare; a glare that I've seen a million times before. Kayli is vicious and ruthless, but I know that there's more to her than that. Her weaknesses and intimate history are embedded in my memory.

For a brief moment, her wall crumbles. "Sang," she breathes.

"Kayli," I respond with a soft smile. "It's been a while."

Kayli glances at Owen and her wall is reinforced, "Mr. Blackbourne. Lovely to see you again." The venom of her words is blatantly obvious. I can feel the stabbing blade of her distaste and my back goes rigid. Earlier today, I had briefly joked of her and Brandon's fake relationship, but Owen had not shown any recognition to the name.

"Miss Winchester," Owen responds with a nod. His eyes are steel and cold.

I clear my throat. "We were just about to meet with Dr. Roberts, Kayli. It's a shame we can't stay much longer, but if you're going to be in town, maybe we should grab a coffee?"

Kayli's glare shifts to me and it changes into a blinding smile. "Absolutely, Spitfire. I'll call you later." I step aside, so she can move, and she brushes past me ensuring that our skin meets, "I hope to be reacquainted with you soon."

Her scent of campfire smoke and pine rushes my senses and for a moment, I'm stunned. Memories flood my brain. I inhale deeply, reminiscing before I glide to the door. Dismissing our encounter entirely, I walk inside the office. Now is not the appropriate time to discuss what occurred with the storm that is brewing behind me. His silver eyes are trained on me, even as I take a seat. Phil looks between us with curious eyes but doesn't question anything.

I raise my eyebrows, giving him a pointed look, 'Weren't going to warn me about the incoming hurricane?'

He shakes his head confirming that he was unaware of her arrival.

"Well, Phil. Owen and I were about to head out. Did you get any new information during my shift?"

"Not yet, but we're actively working on it. I'll call you if there's anything you need to know."

"Okay. Owen, do you mind stepping out for a moment? I just need a minute with Phil." I look over at the rumbling thunder next to me. He only offers a curt nod before exiting the room.
