A lot of things in these back stories aren't factual like Yelena and Nat being blood sisters (sharing the same father) and some things are taken from the mcu and the comics.
Born Car-ell (Champion in Kree) Susan Jane Danvers in Boston, Massachusetts now goes by Carol Danvers
Mother Mari-Ell of the Kree species was sent to earth with a mission to breed with humans and form a hybrid child. She abandoned said mission. Changed her name to Marie and married a man named Joe. The two had three children together Joe Jr., Steve, and Carol. When Carol was 11 years old the Kree found them and killed her mother, father and brothers. In doing so caused and explosion involving a powerful stone known as the space stone. Carol was able to absorb the power of the space stone and developed powers.
Powers including enhanced strength, stamina, agility, and durability, as well as flight, almost total immunity to toxins, energy absorption and manipulation, able to survive in space, regeneration, and is able to generate heat, light and radiation.
She was not able to control these powers which put her on S.H.I.E.L.D. radar. She was caught with a power dampaning device around her neck. Nick Fury, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D took pity on the at the time 12 year old girl and helped her learn to control her powers as well as adopting her.
Carol is now 17 and has been the daughter of Nick for 3 years and now has enough control of her powers to be able to start high school. She has been schooled at S.H.I.E.L.D for years now it's time to tackle public school.
