MAX WAS LYING ON HER BED, LISTENING TO HER RADIO WHERE THE GAME AT HAWKINS HIGH WAS PLAYING. Lucas was excited about this, it mattered to him, but Max did not want to be around people so she was listening from the comfort of her bed instead. It wasn't just Lucas' game she had refused to go to. It was also Mike and Dustin's D&D campaign. Honestly, Max didn't know anything about the game except what they faced in Hawkins. Bella had tried teaching her but Max gave up instantly and had distracted Bella, who was adorably passionate about it, with kisses.
Max tore her eyes from the ceiling when hearing rapping against the trailer door, wiping away the tears that were rolling down her cheeks silently. She got up instantly, already knowing who it would be. Making sure to leave her room door open to still hear the game being broadcasted, she made her way to the door, passing by her mom on the couch drinking from a can of beer.
Lizzie was waiting there holding onto a plastic bag and Max let her in with a small smile. Since she had moved into the trailer park, Lizzie would come over almost every evening depending on how long her shift lasted. At first it was only to check on Max but, after seeing Susan Hargrove passed out on the couch surrounded by beer bottles and Max left with just scraps to eat, Lizzie would come with either takeout or homemade food that just needed to be warmed up.
