Hadn't it been for them I'd feel the full coursed pain.
Buzzzz buzzz
I looked over to see Hams name on my screen. I accepted the call, "hey."
Even though the pain was heavy I couldn't ingnore my friends calls. "Hey, the boys and I are going to play ball..." he paused, I could hear the breathing of his voice reminding me that I wasn't alone.
"You should come."
I smiled briefly before it faded once again. "I think ima stay home. You guys have fun."
With that we said goodbyes and he wished me happiness.
I laid back down feeling my stomach grumble. I placed my hand over my stomach ignoring the pain of not eating for days.
All my friends were worried about me.
"Hey y/n?" Lillian your friend tapped your shoulder. "Hm?" You questioned looking up from the work that You couldn't even focus on due to the disconnectedness in your brain at the moment. "Have you been eating? Your looking really ill." You paused knowing it had been days since you ate a meal.
"Yeah. I eat all the time, why wouldn't I?" You lied. "Oh. We'll I was just checking in on you. Tell me if you need someone to talk to, I care about you." She reassured you placing a hand on yours.
I sighed, I was to hurt to eat at the moment. Besides the pain in your stomach gave you company.
. . .
I woke up to the sound of my phone buzzing. I picked up the call, weird it's Matt's mom. She never called you, it was always Matt.
Did he break his phone? "Hey Mrs. Greyson!-" you faked your happiness when you were interrupted by her sobbing.
"I'm sorry." She mumbled in her painful sobbing. My eyes widened in shock, "Mrs. Greyson, are you okay? What happened?"
. . .
I dropped my phone, it hurt too much for a tear to even form at the moment. The room seemed to be enclosing on me. How could this happen?
It didn't feel real. I slapped myself to see if I could feel the pain, I could.
I ran out of the house into the cold night. I didn't care, I felt like I was loosing my mind.
I ran and didn't stop. Taking turns when I finally made it, bat and bag full of balls in hand.
Benny's POV
I sat at my desk staring at y/n's house across from mine wondering how she was holding up.
Should I check on her? Suddenly I jumped up seeing y/n running out of the house with a bat and a bag of balls in her hand.
What's she doing? It's midnight, where's she going this late?
I quickly grabbed my hoodie and shoes running out the door after her.
I ran following her a distance away to not disturb her but to make sure she's alright.
I watched as she ran through the gate to the sandlot. "Why's she playing ball this late?" I whispered under my breath.
I jogged over to the gate slipping through hiding behind a bush to watch what she was doing.
She got to the home base. POW! I watched as the ball flew through the air. Each time she shot a ball into the sky she had hit it harder than before.
I watched in shock as she swung her bat making each ball home run worthy.
By now she had hit around 42 balls and she was still going. I felt a drip land on my face.
I looked up to see more drops of water fall down one after another. I looked back at y/n.
It was pouring and she was still batting. Is she okay?
Thunder struck and she swung the bat one last time hitting the ball the furthest I had ever seen a ball go.
She fell to the floor on her knees. "Y/n!" I yelled running out on the field faster than I had ever run before.
She was crying uncontrollably, it had completely broke me.
(Play the video from above and read)
I got down on my knees enwrapping her in a hug.
"What's wrong?" I asked worried. She was shaking uncontrollably, she was scaring me.
"H- he's" I listened waiting to hear what she was trying to say.
Your POV
"Matt's dead!" I screamed out finally accepting the truth.
"Matt died in a house fire this morning. He was trying to get everyone out but it was to late for him to make it out himself. I knew he would've wanted me to tell you, your his best friend." She sobbed into the phone.
Benny went silent. "W- why does everyone keep leaving... why can't I go instead!"
I cried into his arms. I couldn't form the words I was feeling. There wasn't any way of explaining how I felt right now.
"Y/n..." Benny whispered. I could hear his voice shaking.
"Why does this have to happen?! I- I can't feel anymore and it's scaring me!" I paused remembering the feeling I had gotten earlier with Benny.
Thunder erupted in the sky.
"I broke it daddy.." you looked down in shame. You looked up hearing the chuckling of your dad. "You always tell the truth when it rains. We really are alike. Besides I never liked that trophy anyways, the man who gave it to me wasn't very fair." You smiled and hugged your dad. He looked into the sky watching the rain fall down onto the both of you.
"After my dad died I wasn't able to trust and love anymore. But that changed when I met you. A-and I don't know if it's because I like you, and even if, could I love you still now that I'm even more broken? Benny-"
I was interrupted between my sobs when Benny leaned in, our lips touched.
Finally, I could hear and feel my heart beat again. It was like an antidote to all the built up pain.
I pushed him off breaking the long needed kiss. "I wanna love you but I don't know how." A tear rolled down my cheek along with the rain.
"I can teach you." I looked into his loving eyes. He felt my pain, I felt like he knew exactly how I felt.
I felt a spark light up in my heart, I like him. I leaned in kissing him this time.
The rain dripped down my forehead and down my cheek. I smiled pulling my lips from his, our foreheads still touching.
I was finally being honest, honest with myself. I love benny.
I finally was able to breathe in for what seemed like forever. "I'm only honest when it rains." I whispered a smile creeping onto my face.
