I quickly got changed into a pair of white sweat pants and a black tank top. I was about to exit the room when I realized I had almost forgot some money. I ran back in the dim room and grabbed some of my allowance.
I ran out of the room, downstairs and outside. All the boys had been waiting at the end of my driveway. "Finally!" Squints yelled raising his hands in the air before dropping them down to his sides. I ran up to them laughing, "Calm down Squints, it was only a couple of minutes."
"No, it was more like ten!" Timmy whined. "Okay, whatever. Lets go already before it gets too late." Bertram said ending the conversation. We all started walking when someone came up from behind me. "You look pretty today." Yeah-yeah said examining my outfit.
"Thanks." I said with a small smile. Yeah-yeah and I were still going on small dates, I'm thankful he hasn't asked me to be his girlfriend yet. "Wanna know what I'm thinking?" He asked now wrapping an arm around my shoulder.
"Hmm?" I hummed looking at him in curiosity. "We should ride the fairest wheel together." He had a big grin swept across his face, I could tell he really wanted me to say yes. Usually I'm the honest type, but honestly I didn't wanna go with him. But instead I said, "sure, sound fun!"
He smiled wider and unwrapped his arm around me, running to ketch up with Ham. My smile soon faded as I was now walking alone behind all the boys. Sometimes I miss hanging out with my other friends, cause to be honest. I'm a girl, I'm always gonna be.
I need some girl friends in my life. Suddenly I felt a hand ruffle my hair, I jerked my head up to see Benny smiling down at me. I pouted, "What?" Benny's smile faded and he soon looked at me in curiosity. "What's wrong?"
I looked down and back at him again, "I wish I had girl friends like I did where I used to live." He smiled, "We have one more month till school starts. You'll make plenty of friends there." I smiled back at him. Benny's reassurance made me feel better, everything about him did. With him I felt anything were possible, all my guilt, sadness, anger all went away. He was a good friend for sure, and I'm so thankful I met him.
Benny stood by my side during the entire walk. We laughed and talked the entire time, finally we had met our destination. Benny nodded at me before running ahead of everyone, "Guys, guys! It's all on me tonight." We all cheered and thanked Benny while receiving our tickets. I could see his smile, how happy he had been.
We had beat Phillips, and won a fair and square game. He handed out my ticket, I took it touching his soft warm hands. He looked at me with a smile, I didn't know what to do so I let out a nervous laugh. We all walked in, I looked around at all the people. People with face paint, crazy hair dye, clown outfits were walking around. Kids laughed and talked, screams in the distance were heard.
I took a deep breath, all the scents of popcorn, corn dogs, burgers, cotton candy, chocolate and such reminded me of... Suddenly I remembered a moment with my father.
Memory(You were five years old)
"Daddy! Daddy! Look!" You yell as you point to a clown walking around with a bundle of balloons. Your dad looks over, "You want one?" You nodded your head in excitement. He smiles and nods, "Let's go." You and your dad walk over to the clown hand in hand.
"And what would you like little one?" The clown wearing a colorful polka dotted costume asked. "I want a balloon!" You cheered jumping up and down in excitement. The clown put on a wide smile and pulled down the bundle of balloons so you could see them better. "Which one?" he asked shuffling around the balloons.
You examined the balloons when one caught your eye. A round balloon with the image of a baseball floated happily in the center of the balloons. "That one! That one!" you screamed tugging on your dads shirt with one hand and pointing with the other.
