Kate took a place next to chimney and Eddie, she helped them try and separate the car, as Buck wedged the jaws of life through the small gap

With a lot of strength and a lot more struggle, they managed to get into the car, the woman was wedged in there, the car hugged her like a glove but she was awake and mumbling out a few words. As for her son, he was breathing but was still unconscious and a possible vertebrae break

Kate had managed to squeeze herself between Hen and the bottom of the car, hoping to investigate the mothers injuries more, she heard some updates about the boy, he had a possible brain injury, his blood pressure was rocketing and he was probably lucky to be alive

"Any word on the mother, do we know what was wrong?" Athena asked

"It's hard to say, she could have had a heady injury but it's hard to tell what's new and what's old" Kate shouted out to her

She ran her hand up and down the woman's leg "can you feel that?" She asked

The woman mumbled out a yes, it was hard decipher much of what she was saying, her words were slurring into one

Kate felt around the car, she came across the feeling of a glass bottle, she pulled out a bottle of some alcohol, it was almost empty.

Kate blinked, she glanced around, people were dead, people were injured, cars were piling on top of each other, her own son was on the brink of death- he could die because she chose to drink

Kate stood up, "Athena" she called, she held up the bottle

Athen took the bottle, she sighed "How many people have to die tonight because she was drunk and stupid?"

Kate scoffed, she looked over to Bobby who looked like he was feeling the worlds guilt, it broke her heart because the man had grown to be like a father figure but they were both experiencing a different type of pain.

"Drunk driving with your only child in the car..." hen muttered,

"You good here, Hen?" Bobby asked

Hen shook her head, "Not one bit, Cap. But I got it. It's our job, right?" She questioned, she gave him a nod and he left it to them

Kate was fine, she was fine with it when it was just a crash. A crash that happened purely because she could have had a head injury but now, now it was a woman who chose to take her son in a car when she was drinking. It was a crash caused because she chose the burning taste of alcohol over her own son and his safety.

Kate felt the all too familiar pain in her chest, the pain that was followed with the short breaths "Hen- I can't.. can you"

"I got it" Hen nodded, knowing it was hitting close to home

Kate pulled of her helmet, she walked away from the crash and over to the an ambulance, she just needed to be alone for a minute to catch her breath.

Kate stood a few feet away from the ambulance, she tried to catch her breath, she tried the box breathing mechanism, this was part of the job, she couldn't let it get personal, if she let it get personal then she'd be a bad firefighter.

But it was impossible, every time she blinked she saw the same crash three years ago. The same one that ruined her life, that took everything from her.
