Armin sighed and tapped his fingers anxiously against the pillar, edging closer towards the end of it and peeking back to see Y/n.
"Because of reasons that I can't really talk about right now," he said in a slight panic as he saw Y/n and the others begin to walk in his direction.
"Let's go!" The blonde said as he slinked away into the theater.
Marlowe gaped before calling out to him.
"H-Hey, what about Hitch!"
Armin was a nervous wreck the whole time.
He had sat down a few seats behind Y/n and the others, and his heart raced in fear. 30% because of the movie and the other 70% being because he was afraid of getting caught.
A jump-scare came out of nowhere, and Hitch and some of the other people in the crowd yelped (including Armin).
Ok.
50% because of the movie, and the other 50% being because he was afraid of getting caught.
Thankfully, the movie's runtime wasn't too unbearably long, and the blonde sighed in relief as they exited the theater room. They got out and waited in the lobby for Marlowe to come back from the bathroom.
Hitch slapped Armin's shoulder playfully and smiled.
"See, that wasn't so bad!" she cheered and Armin let his shoulders slump slightly in ease. He laid low against the wall, still staying alert, and Hitch munched on the leftover popcorn.
The girl talked about how scary the movie had been, and just as she began to go on about how realistic it all looked, she was startled by Mina Carolina, who had sneaked her way from behind and pinched Hitch jokingly.
"Boo!" Mina had shouted and Hitch shrieked, spilling her popcorn all over the floor. She turned and saw Mina grinning mischievously at her, and she smiled.
"Oh my God, bitch! Don't scare me like that!" She said as she greeted the girl and the two hugged. "I didn't know you were coming! If I had, I would have sat next to you!" She said as she began to chat with Mina, ignoring the sea of popcorn on the floor.
Armin sighed out and frowned as he looked at the mess Hitch had made.
Grumbling to himself, he bent down to pick up as many kernels as he could. He then saw a pair of delicate hands reach down to help him.
Y/n had kneeled down to grab some pieces, and she tossed them into the bucket that the boy had placed on the floor. She exchanged a brief glance with him.
"An essay, huh?" she asked flatly.
Armin's blue eyes went wide and he stammered, scrambling to find the right thing to say.
"I, uh--Y/n-"
"Armin, if you had plans with Hitch already, you could have just told me." She looked at him, unsmiling.
Y/n was clearly upset as she finished throwing the last kernel into the popcorn bowl and handed it to Armin. "I would have understood," she said in a soft voice that Armin couldn't stand to hear.
They both stood up and Armin moved closer to the girl, looking at her in shame.
"Y/n, really, it's not what it looks like."
Y/n's lips were pulled together, and she frowned.
"It looks like you lied."
Armin exhaled.
"I-I did, and I'm sorry. I promise that I didn't intend to come here tonight, Hitch just roped me into her plans!" His blue eyes trembled as he tried his best to sound genuine. "And that's not even why I said no to you!" he blurted out before realizing that he shouldn't have said that.
Tilting her head, Y/n looked at him.
"Then why did you?" she questioned.
And Armin couldn't bring himself to say that it was because he currently despised Jean.
He couldn't blame it all on the boy. He knew that his stubbornness was a part of the problem.
When he didn't answer, Y/n sighed and looked down to her feet.
"I'll just see you on Monday, Min," she said without meeting Armin's eyes. She turned, and she left the boy standing there with a bucket of compromised popcorn in his hands.
Armin's hold on the bucket went limp, and he stared guiltily at the door in which Y/n went through.
He only had one thought on his mind.
That did not just happen
