Chapter 26: Complication

Gasping dramatically, Hitch exclaimed loud, and Armin pulled the phone away from his ear.

"Whaaaat?! You said no? To Becky? That's, like, the perfect makeout opportunity!" she shouted, scandalized. "Why'd you say no?"

Armin glared at nothing in particular and spoke in a resentful tone.

"'Cause Horseface is going."

He heard Hitch laugh on the other side.

"Damn, that's cold, Armin."

The blonde stayed quiet and hummed out in disinterest, not really caring what he sounded like.

"Armin, now you're just being plain bitchy, and that's from me. A certified bitch," Hitch proclaimed. "You should apologize to Jean."

The boy grumbled.

"But I'm just--!" he began to exclaim before heaving and lowering his voice. "I'm kind of mad that he's with her all the time." Armin turned on his side and closed his eyes as he held the phone against his ear.

"Boy, you crazy. With a capital 'K'." Hitch had laughed out and Armin protested.

"No I'm not! Isn't it reasonable for me to be upset that Y/n's stopped hanging out with me as often? She says no to plans all the time because she's out with him," he spat out.

"Well, then talk to her about how you're feeling, dumb-dumb," Hitch had said sternly as she began to file her nails. "It doesn't have to be as complicated as you're making it out to be, geeze," she rolled her eyes. "All you gotta do is tell her that you wanna hang out with her more. Easy-peasy!"

Armin, though he knew the girl was right, couldn't help but feel opposed to the idea. He didn't like the thought of telling Y/n about how he was feeling insecure. But he relented and agreed with Hitch.

"Fine. I'll talk to her."

"Cool! And you're coming on Friday."

Armin frowned.

"No, I can't. What if I run into Y/n and the others?"

"Too bad, I already bought your ticket," Hitch snickered evilly and Armin went slack-jawed.

"Wh- Hitch, no!" Armin objected.

"Just wear a hoodie or something, I don't care. Because I'm not going alone with Marlowe," the girl said firmly.

"Bruh."

"Stop bitching, it'll be fine! You won't get caught and if you do, oh well!"

Armin groaned in annoyance as he flopped back onto his bed and covered his tired eyes.

"Hitch, why are you like this?" he questioned in frustration.

And that's how Armin found himself on Friday night hiding behind one of the movie theater's pillars.

He wore his black jacket and pulled it up over his head as he waited for Hitch to finish buying popcorn.

Marlowe stood next to him with a raised brow.

"Why are you wearing that? It can't be that cold." he asked and Armin motioned for him to be quiet.

"Just keep it down, Marlowe."

Playing along, Marlowe lowered his voice and looked around cautiously. "Are you hiding from something?" he questioned before his eyes finally landed on Y/n in the distance. And it all made sense to him. "Or someone--are you hiding from Y/n?"

With shifting eyes, Armin nodded. "Yeah, do you see her?"

"Yeah, she's over there," Marlowe nodded over to where the girl was, standing next to Marco and Mikasa. "Why are you avoiding her?"
