Chapter 79: Defeat

"What the hell..." Bruce mumbled. He glanced back, watching as a blue rift tore open in space. That instantly drew everyone's attention and their eyes. The portal got bigger and bigger, a blue smog slowly retracting back to reveal Thanos. There was now a distinct green glow on the thumb of the gauntlet.

"Steve. That's the guy." (Y/N) said lowly, staring down the threat with high doubts of them winning. In an instant, everyone had their weapons engaged. "Don't underestimate him. Right now, he's the strongest being in the universe."

On that note, Steve slowly began to pace forward, eliciting the same response from the others.

Bruce was the first to try go for an attack. He reeled back the hulkbuster's one good arm as he charged at Thanos, only to be caught by the Space Stone and phased past him. He was pushed into a wall where the suit became trapped.

Next was Steve, who didn't even get a chance to attack as he was swept away by the Power Stone.

T'Challa then dove up into the air, trying to grapple down onto the Mad Titan. But he was caught before he could do so, followed by a punch that knocked him down against the ground at a harsh speed.

(Y/N) swept out of a shadow behind Thanos. He stabbed his nails down into the plating on the man's shoulder, flipping over him and trying to slam his knee into the man's head. Thanos just blocked the attack and knocked him away.

(Y/N) slid across the dirt, manifesting a blade in his hand as he glanced back up. But as soon as he did, he found himself unable to avoid a blast from the Space and Reality Stones. His body flickered as he fell from the dimension, a shocked yet furious look on his face as he flickered away. "You motherf-"

Sam flew over just as (Y/N) faded into ashes. He sprayed down bullets from his machine guns, but his wings were caught by the Reslity Stone and turned to rubber. Their flight capabilities disappeared immediately and the man tumbled down to the dirt.

"Wanda." Vision tried to grab the woman's attention as she stared at the destruction. "Wanda, it's time."

"No." She said with gritted teeth.

"Our strongest warrior just disappeared. They cannot stop him, Wanda, but we can." Vision grabbed at her arm, turning her to face him. The two locked eyes, hesitant to what they would have to do.

"No. I won't." Wanda shook her head.

"Wanda, you must destroy the stone. Wanda, please." He continued, a sympathetic look on his face. He knew it would hurt her more than it would hurt him. "We are out of time."

"I can't..." She whispered. Vision took her hand, guiding it back.

"You can." He told her. "If he gets the stone, half the universe dies. It's not fair. It shouldn't be you, but it is."

Wanda's hand quivered as she stepped back.

"It's all right. You could never hurt me."  Vision slowly sank into a crouch as Wanda continued to hesitate. Vision gave her one last smile. "I just feel you." Wanda finally broke through her emotions, channeling her powers through her hand and firing it straight into the Mind Stone.

Across from them, the remaining fighters were still stalling. Rhodey hovered through the air, firing everything he had at the genocidal maniac, but still it wasn't enough. Thanos only has to clench his fist and use the Space Stone to crush the man's suit, throwing him away without a second thought.

Following was Bucky, Natasha and Okoye. All three were wiped out by a simple wave from the Power Stone, leaving them unconscious.

Not even Groot was able to have an effect. The talking tree was thrown back and out of sight.
