50- The player with a sweet smile

Lucas speeded up the car, directing to the place where he could save the dog. Mara squeezed her eyes. Where did she go wrong? Why did her dog have to meet thing like this? It was her fault. It was her fault for deciding to save the cat.

But if she did not save the cat, it could die from jumping of the branch. Mara kept blaming herself as she caressed the dog. She was wishing silently. She was wishing to save her dog. As the car stopped in front of a building, Mara quickly went out of the car.

Lucas parked the car and went out the car to follow the young woman who just ran into the building. "Please save my dog" the young woman said as her eyes locked with the woman in white coat. The woman observed the dog as her eyes widened.

"What happened?!"

She spoke and took the husky from Mara's hands in hurry. "Someone stabbed him" Mara said and bit her lower lip in anxiety. She followed the woman with quick steps. "I understand, you can wait here" the woman spoke and went into the operating room.

"Please wait here, you can't go in" The two girls spoke and stopped the young woman from following into the operating room. "But-" "Miss, please wait here. he will be fine. Please don't worry" the girls said and stood in front of the door. "But still what if-"

"Miss Mara, please calm down. He will be fine" Lucas placed his hand onto the young woman's shoulder. His brows pulled together in worries. Mara sighed and nodded. She sat down on the bench while staring down at the floor with empty eyes.

Her mind was a mess. Her brain was not working. Her heart was jumping in anxiety and fear. Her body was shaking in frustration, blaming herself for not caring about her husky. Mara bit her fingertip, holding back her tears.

Lucas sat down beside the young woman as he observed her with worries. "Please don't worry. She is my friend and I am sure that she is going to save your husky without making any mistake" he softly spoke and stroked Mara's hair.

The young woman did not respond. Her eyelids drooped. She just stared at the floor with empty eyes. Her eyes which were used to be show boredom were no longer the same. Her face which never showed emotions was now showing the fear and anxiety.

Mara turned her head and faced the man. "Did you catch that man who stabbed my husky?" she questioned as her eyes blazed. Lucas nodded with a small smile. "Great.." the young woman murmured and shut her eyes.

They two fell into silence.

Lucas was staring at the young woman while Mara was closing her eyes and leaning back on the wall. Thirty minutes passed and the operating room door finally opened. Making the young woman stood up from the bench in hurry.

"How is he?" she questioned as Lucas got up from the bench and stood behind the young woman. "He is fine now. You just arrived in time" the woman smiled as Mara sighed in relief. She clenched her fists, holding back her tears. She hated to show her tears.

"You can go and see him in the room 3" the woman spoke as Lucas smiled at her and stepped forward. "Thanks" Mara murmured and bit her lower lip. "Thank you" she repeated and smiled at the woman while Lucas patted the woman's shoulder.

"Thank you, my dear friend. You are my hero" he smiled sweetly as the woman rolled her eyes. "Then I will go and pay the cost" Mara spoke and excused herself. "Who is that beautiful woman?" the woman asked and raised her eyebrow.

"The woman I want" Lucas smiled as the woman raised her upper lip in annoyance. "She looks like a pure girl. Don't play with her heart, you stupid. There are women who are willing to be your toy" the woman warned.

A chuckle escaped Lucas's lips. "Nah, I am serious this time. She is the one who I have been finding in my life" the man's words made the woman roll her eyes. "That's what you say whenever I see you with a woman"

She said with a disgusted face.

"Believe it or not. I am not kidding this time" Lucas spoke and smiled. "Whatever, don't play with innocent girl's heart. I will beat your ass if I hear the new about a girl trying to eat poison just because you do not give attention to her"

Lucas laughed out loud in amusement. "I won't!" he spoke and walked out of the waiting room with the woman. Mara paid the cost and went to the room 3 where her dog was. As she walked in, there was a dog lying on the bed.

There were two nurses who were tying his body at the bed, just to make sure that he would not run away or jump out of the bed. "Can I take him back to my house now?" Mara questioned and stepped near to the two nurses.

"Umm yes, but you have to wait a few hours first" one of the nurses spoke as the young woman nodded with a grin. "Thank you" she spoke with a small smile. "It is fine. Please excuse us" the nurses left the room as Mara let out a loud sigh.

She sat down at the seat beside the bed while caressing the dog's soft fur. "I thought I lost you" she spoke under her breath and smiled. Lucas stepped into the room as his eyes met the young woman staring at the dog. "Hey!"

He walked near to the young woman and stood beside her. Mara looked up at the man as her lips formed into a smile. "Do you want some water?" Lucas raised his eyebrow and handed the water bottle to the young woman.

"Thanks"

Mara took the water bottle from the man and smiled. "Thanks for saving my husky" the young woman spoke as Lucas's lips curved up into a sweet smile. "You are welcome, Miss Mara" he spoke and sat down beside the young woman.

"You can call me Mara" the young woman said and opened the water bottle to drink. "Alright, Mara. You can also call me Lucas" the man smiled at the young woman. Mara nodded in understatement. The male lead of the novel was not that bad though.

She was always busy thinking of running away from the main leads just to avoid the death flags. But seemed like there was no death flag for her if she interacted with them. Maybe she was just overthinking.

"What are you going to do with the man who harmed your husky?" Lucas questioned and observed the young woman. "I will kill him for sure" Mara said with a cold face. The pure girl which the woman said was no longer the innocent girl.

Lucas blinked twice and tilted his head to make sure he did not hear things. "Kill him?" he asked again. "Yes" the young woman replied sharply. "Wow, I did not expect you to be that terrifying" Lucas smiled in amusement.

He thought this young woman was just tough. He never expected her to say she would kill someone with a cold face as if she had been killing people in her life. 'How amusing' Lucas chuckled lightly and lowered his head.

Making the young woman furrowed her brows in confusion. "What?" she questioned with wrinkled eyebrows. "Nothing" Lucas shook his head and stared back into the young woman's eyes with a smile. This young woman never failed to surprise him.

"I will take the man to my house" Mara said as Lucas nodded in understatement with a smile. "As you wish, Mara" he softly spoke as the young woman raised her eyebrow. Why was the male lead always smiling like a fool?

She thought he was a cold and scary type like Ezekial Clyde. But turned out he was the player with a sweet smile. Mara sighed tiredly and returned her attention back to her dog which was sleeping peacefully on the bed.

'I am exhausted'
