Mr. Blackbourne: Luke? I just heard from Silas what is going on?
Luke: She has a fever and was wheezing badly. I just got her to sleep.
Dr. Green: Good she needs sleep! Make sure she sleeps Luke. No movement till the pain medicine kicks in. The fever is probably from the pain, she had one when she came in the last time remember.
Mr. Blackbourne: Keep her close for the rest of the night. I am going to have Victor stop in at 5 to trade off with you.
Luke: She is fast asleep. I have her comfortable and will make sure she sleeps the rest of the night.
I breathed out a sigh and slipped a hand to her forehead watching her.
Dr. Green: It’s going to be a long night for her Luke. Keep your eyes on her.
I slowly put my phone down watching this small girl on my chest sleep. She was completely out of it and I could tell her breathing hurt but she wasn’t giving up. Sang would shift once and a while but stayed asleep for a number of hours. I rested when I could but stayed mostly awake through the night. I made sure to fill in the guys making sure everyone was up to date. It was about four-thirty when Victor messaged.
Victor: I am on my way. What do I need to know?
Luke: She still has a high fever. Keep her close and keep the blankets on her.
Victor: How bad is the fever?
Luke: I don’t know. There is no first aid kit in her room. Bring one just in case.
Victor: Be there soon.
It was five on the dot when there was a tap on the window. I nodded and watched him carefully slip in and my eyes widened as Sang opened her eyes. I slowly shifted out of the bed carrying her to Victor who slipped out of his coat and was quickly rushing over to me reaching out for her. I heard a groan and my eyes widened. “It’s okay. I need to get going Sang… Victor is here you just sleep.” Her eyes wandered over to Victor as I very slowly handed her to.
“I gotcha Princess.” He whispered and I watched him place a hand on her forehead making her flinch and shiver. I bit my lip and followed the other over and brought the covers over the two. “Okay nice and easy.” I heard Victor whisper and I watched her settle back into sleep. I shifted, grabbing the first aid kit and pulled out a thermometer.
I carefully handed it to Victor who nodded and slipped his hand over Sang’s ear shifting her hair. I placed it very carefully in her ear. Victor shifted a little and I yawned exhausted but was careful making sure Sang didn’t wake. There was a soft beep and I pulled the thermometer out of her ear.
“100.7” I whispered and slowly shifted the blankets a little more around her shoulders as she shivered in her sleep.
“Okay. I will keep an eye on it. Go sleep Luke.” Victor watched me with stern eyes and I nodded a little and slipped back to the window and down the roof. I noticed North’s car outside of Kota’s and I made my way down the street. I heard movement and North and Kota shifted forward.
“Luke?” Kota called out.
“Yeah.” I responded letting the exhaustion fill my voice. North shifted forward to me and I smiled slightly.
“Get in the car bro. I am going to get us home.” He whispered and I nodded not wanting to fight at this moment and having little energy to respond.
“How was she? We saw the pictures.” Kota questioned and I shifted.
“She has a fever of 100.7. Doc said it was because of the pain and I could believe it. She wheezed most of the night. Damn Kota. We need to get her out of there. Her cheek is bruised and tongue is bloody. She bit it when she was smacked and it did a number.” I quickly reported and North swore.
My legs shook and I felt a hand on my back as Kota shifted me to the car where there was a pillow and blanket set up in the back seat. I paled and smiled in exhaustion. “Thank you.” I stepped in and laid out before falling asleep.
