Matt Greyson

"Who's that?" Timmy asked. "Who's that?" Repeated Tommy when they finally realized Matt. 

"This is Matt, Matt Greyson." They each rose an eyebrow. "He's my bestfriend from Texas."

"Oh!" Yelled Timmy and Tommy. "And what's he doing here?" asked Squints in a sassy tone,

"He came to play ball!" Responded Smalls smiling at Squints. Timmy and Tommy seemed to not care since they walked right over and shacked Matt's hand.

Squints on the other hand looked upset, he walked right past Matt and made his way over to Benny. He whispered something to Benny and looked straight at Matt. Matt looked at me with a confused face, I shrugged my shoulders showing that I didn't know anything.

Suddenly Ham, Kenny, and Yeah-yeah ran over. They were laughing and telling jokes, "Hey guys!" Yelled the three boys in sync. They laughed at the fact they spoke at the same time.

The rest of the boys greeted them in their own ways and went back to talking. "Ham, Kenny, Yeah-yeah! Come here!" I yelled waiting for them to jog on over. Sure enough they came right over laughing, "Yeah?" Asked Kenny. 

"Who's this?" Asked Ham. "Yeah, yeah that's what I wanna know." Spoke Yeah-yeah.

"This is Matt Greyson." Matt reached his hand out and surprisingly they each shook his hand without hesitation. 

"He's going to play with us?" asked Ham.

"Yeah, I hope you don't mid it." I bit my lip unsure what his answer would be.

"No I don't, but you sure he can handle keeping up with us?" Ham said smiling giving me a playful wink.

I laughed and shook my head, "Not a chance."

Matt playfully shoved me and smiled. "Don't listen to her. I think I can keep up, she's just a little 'Woo Hoo!' you know?" Matt explained circling his pointer finger around his temple suggesting I were crazy.

I smacked Matt on the head and smiled. All the boys laughed, but the one I noticed was Benny's. Benny had a really perfect smile that made me feel like I was dreaming. His laugh made me wanna keep laughing with him, it was so contagious. I hadn't known if the others felt this way but we all laughed for a good two minutes straight.

We all stopped laughing and got ready to play, "Benny your up!" Yelled Ham. Ham was squatting getting ready to catch the ball. To be honest Benny didn't even need a catcher, he never missed the ball.

Benny swung his bat getting ready before sending a nod towards DeNunez. DeNunez pitched it perfectly, but it still wasn't enough to take Benny out.

'CRACK'

Benny dropped his bat and ran for first, Benny looked at smalls who still was trying to catch the ball. Benny than decided to start running towards second. Before he could go any farther Smalls threw the ball to Bertram who threw it to Kenny. 

Finally it was Matt's turn. This was the one shot that he had to get really approved by the team. Matt swung his bat a few times and nodded at Denunez, "Ready!"

Kenny got ready and than pitched it smoothly and quickly, Matt missed. I heard giggling, I turned around to see Squints. I couldn't believe him, why was he acting like this?

"Strike one!" Yelled Ham. Matt got in position again and called out, "Ready!" Denunez pitched the ball and it came flying towards Matt's bat. 

'CRACK'

The ball went flying. Matt dropped the bat and ran towards first base, he than decided to leave to second. Benny ran to third and stopped. Timmy threw the ball to me, "out!" I shouted at Matt.

Matt walked to first base shaking his head. I laughed and called him a slow poke the entire day.

We all ran to the dugout sweat dripping from our faces. I grabbed my water and chugged it like I hadn't drank in days. We were all worn out and hungry, finally I had remembered what my mom told me earlier. I reached over and grabbed my backpack in front of me on the floor. 

"Guys!" I yelled grabbing everyone's attention, "My mom gave me money, who wants to eat at a diner with me? I'll pay." all of a sudden all the boys jumped up in excitement.

We all grabbed our things and headed out the sandlot, during the walk we were separated into three groups. Denunez, Ham, Yeah-yeah, and Squints were walking together. Timmy, Tommy, and Smalls. And than Bertram, Benny, Matt and I. We all walked telling inside jokes and picking on the others.

At the end of the night after everyone went home. When it was only Benny, Matt and I, Benny looked at me and said "Thanks, It was nice of you and your mom to pay for our dinner like that." 

"Your welcome." I said starring at my feet. Benny was on my right as Matt was on my left, we were all walking quietly but comfortably. "Hey.. thanks for treating Matt well." I said breaking the silence. 

"No need to thank me, he's a pretty cool dude." Benny said smiling. "Maybe he can come tomorrow too?" I asked with a smile. 

Benny stopped and nodded, "Of course he's welcome anytime."

He steeped towards me and before I new it he hugged me, his hands were over my back. Even though it was just a normal friendly hug, it was special to me. It was the first time he had hugged me.

He than went up to Matt and fist bumped each other. I was really happy, all my friends approved of Matt. I don't know about Squints, though he did laugh at a few of his jokes.

"Bye! See you guys tomorrow!" Benny yelled jogging backwards.

I waved at him in response and headed on inside. As soon as me and Matt got home we each ran straight to our rooms and went right to bed. We were so worn out and tired to stay up any later.

I went to bed that night dreaming of Benny and his perfect features. Had I really liked Benny more than a friend? Or did I just think he was cute?

Authors Note: This story may be boring, I have a few ideas coming up so... just keep reading! I barely started the story and I'm already excited for the ending!!! (I hope my story comes t as planned.)
