It took you no less than two hours to return to the base by car, with you practically holding onto Kid the entire way as you were incapable of walking more than two feet without face planting onto the floor. But if you overlooked that, it actually wasn't all that bad, aside from the inner turmoil that is, but by the looks of it, this seemed to be affecting the monstrous redhead as well. He was quiet on the way back, barely speaking a word to you until he parked the car and got out. Once he picked you up from the passenger seat and abandoned you to the bed of his train, he wordlessly locked himself in the workshop and didn't come out until supper. It wasn't awkward so much as it was frustrating. Why was he the one beating himself up about his confusion when he was the one who'd caused it?

Nevertheless, the next few days were spent in lavish silence. With no alpha to bug you and no pestering presences, you could take your time to heal and mull over your emotions. Escape was no longer an option, and even if it was, it was just a distant dream with the way you were now, but maybe... just maybe staying wasn't too bad. You had food, clothing, shelter, and... potential new friends. What more could you want for?

Freedom...?

It wasn't long before you asked Killer if he could lend you a small plot of land outside the base to make a grave. He'd initially been suspicious, as normally these types of things would be passed through Kid; being that he was your mate, but when you'd asked him, he had no choice but to consent for fear that you'd do it regardless of his approval. From time to time, it was better to concede than to fight back to maintain the equilibrium of things.

Suspiciously, though, when Killer went to relay this to Kid, the only response he got was an angered huff and a plume of murderous pheromones.

So he took it as a yes.

Once the two of you were outside the base and you began to work on the soft soil, with the help of Killer, you let your body take over the reins while your mind went to distant lands.

All things considered, you couldn't really understand why you'd need a babysitter when you were just a hundred feet from the base.... It made no sense. You'd survived without the help of anyone before, why did you need one now?

You huffed a little, annoyed that Kid didn't think you were capable enough of taking care of yourself outside of the gates. Then again, he was probably more concerned that you'd try to escape again, more than your general safety, so you didn't dare bring it up.

"I don't see why I need a chaperone..." You silently muttered to yourself, scuffing a boot along the dirt path into the woods before you heard Killer run a hand over his scruffy beard.

He'd heard you.

"Pup, you can barely walk as is. What if you were to stumble into a horde?"

Your expression had fallen at that point, and you shifted on your feet as you considered his words, but disregarded it when you'd recalled what you'd done with Kid only a week earlier.
