"My mercy will prevail my wrath."

Those were the words you muttered to yourself as you continued to amble down those roads without any clear destination in mind. And as you did, each and every day they became more and more jumbled. More a mess than the day prior.

You were a shell of the person you once were--a mere doll in the skin of a human that wandered these biter afflicted roads with nowhere to go and nothing to do but survive by the skin of your teeth.

And each time you glanced in the mirror, it became harder to recognize the girl you had once been...

You snapped your eyelids open, bloodshot orbs lazily peering through the crusted lids as you took a good look at the boiling sun glaring down at you from high ahead.

You couldn't have been out for more than a couple of hours, but because of your heat stroke, you had lost those hours of daylight to find your next secure spot, which meant you had to be more wary of the active night-stalkers around the area.

'Great...'

You really weren't suited for the summer, especially when you didn't have nearly as much water as you would have liked. But in the grand scheme of things, that mattered far less than finding a safe clearing to sleep for the night. Although you were far from the city, that didn't mean you were safe either. In fact, staying out on the roads like this was far more dangerous than camping it out on the woods; a path you'd taken when you were first stranded in the countryside by yourself.

But right now, you needed to keep your head screwed on. All you needed to think about was getting to safety before reminiscing of times long ago.

So, grabbing your bag from the nearby decrepit bus, you took a deep breath when Smoothie barged by you, trying not to have a perma-scowl on your face as the smell of her rotting flesh hit you like a three ton freight train.

Under the hot, blazin' Texan sun, she was worse than a heat-roasted steak left out to dry and that was saying something.

But, since you were under a time crunch, something as minute as smell didn't matter as much as finding a secure location to crash for the time being.

When the two of you finally jumped down from the bus, you tugged at the chain collar around her neck and dragged her forward, the two of you aimlessly shambling down the scorched road without a destination in mind.

At times like this, it was easier for your armless, jawless deceased zombie friend to walk on the roads instead of traversing suburban homes and semi-city towns. Granted, those places provided you with the best chances of survival in terms of food and shelter, but you just couldn't risk losing Smoothie in a place like that, especially with how warm it had become ever since summer started.
