He reached down to procure a blue pen from the pencil pouch in his backpack, holding it out for Hitch, who snatched it offhandedly and replied in indifferent acknowledgement.
"Thanks, Erwin."
Whipping her hair behind her, she turned back to her desk and opened her notebook up to a random page, beginning to doodle with her borrowed pen and delving back into her own little world.
Armin, baffled, looked at Y/n, who only snickered at the blonde.
"You're such a kind person, Principal Erwin."
He rolled his eyes at his friend, telling her to be quiet and not call him that.
"I bet she doesn't know your name either." He leaned in and whispered in a huff.
"Oh, I know she doesn't. She called me Becky the other day."
Those lovely sapphire hues of Armin's caught Y/n's grinning eyes, the blonde chortling at her remark.
"Can I call you Becky now?"
"Only on- what day is it today again?"
"Wednesday."
"Ok. Only on Wednesdays."
"Alright, pleasure to make your acquaintance, Miss Becky."
Y/n grinned at the formality and looked away.
"Likewise, Mr. Erwin." She pulled out her forest-green notebook and mechanical pencil, getting ready for the class now that the bell had rang. She looked up to see that Marlowe Freudenberg had resumed his usual seat next to Hitch. The girl next to the bowl-cut boy had taken the liberty of grabbing the boy's left hand, doodling on the newly found medium with Armin's blue pen. Marlowe bashfully asked her what she was doing, to which she replied nonchalantly with "giving you beautiful hand tattoos."
Glancing around, Y/n caught sight of Reiner and Bertholdt sitting far across on the opposite side of the room. She smiled lightly and waved at the two, Reiner and Bertholdt greeting her with their own polite smiles.
A minute after the bell rang, Ms. Ral stood up from her desk in the corner and pulled down the projector screen, displaying the day's date. Taking the projector remote in her hand, she cheerily greeted a less-than-enthusiastic classroom of sleep-deprived kids.
"Guten Morgen, meine Damen und Herren!" She chirped and the class lazily responded back with scattered greetings, some students lifting their heads up from their desks in surprise and others giving it their all.
"Today is," she motioned with her hands for the class to read along the date with her, "Mittwoch, der fünfte Januar."
Feeling satisfied with their lackluster response, she clicked the remote and pulled up the day's objectives.
"Today, we will be adding onto what we know about the culture and delving more into what the Germans like to do for recreation, what they like to eat, aaaand..." She scurried to her desk to grab a thick stack of papers before handing them out to each desk clump, Marlowe being handed four for himself and his desk mates.
Armin and Y/n peered down at the new sheets of paper to see that it was a permission slip. Snapping their heads up, they looked at each other with wide eyes, their mouths agape.
"Überraschung!" Ms. Ral lifted her arms and gave the class jazz hands. "I've gotten permission from the school to take you guys out to eat authentic German food next month. Just have these permission slips in by next Wednesday."
Suddenly, the whole class was abuzz, the tired students coming to life to talk excitedly about the trip.
Hitch scrunched her nose.
