The last day of the year started as a good one. You had been invited to a New Years party by the Yeager family; who invited The Arlerts a few of their other friends, and even Sasha Braus and Connie Springer, some of your casual friends from school. It was a well organized party; there were snack and food platters, desserts, and even some champagne for everyone for later.
You were seated in the living room with Mikasa, Armin, and Sasha. The four of you were laughing together and having fun. Eren and Connie had wandered off somewhere, but what worried you was that Eren had avoided Armin all night, and he looked uncomfortable any time they were within 10 feet of each other.
You knew Mikasa noticed Eren's behaviour, the way her eyes would occasionally sweep the crowd looking for her brother. You knew she wanted to talk to him about his behaviour but every time she broached the subject he got defensive and angry. Mikasa didn't like being yelled at so she left it alone, but you knew she really wanted to help Eren.
By 11PM the party was in full swing: everyone who was invited had arrived and people were mingling and laughing.
45 minutes later, everyone was in the living room, waiting for the countdown. Everyone was hanging out and all your friends were sitting in one big group. A few minutes before the countdown, Mikasa discreetly leaned over and whispered to you quietly.
"Follow me"
You look over at her and she grabs your hand and pulls you away from the group. Thankfully no one was looking, but as Mikasa walked you away, you looked back and saw Eren's eyes turning away from you two.

Mikasa leads you into the hallway, passing a few people who were rushing to the living room for the countdown.

You two open the patio door and step outside into the cold, breaths causing clouds in the night air.

You step forwards and slip your arms around Mikasa's waist, pulling her in close to you. She snuggles into you, hands on your collarbones, her short black hair tickling your face.

You lean in close to her face, letting your eyes drift closed as you're filled with the scent of Mikasa Ackerman.

"HAPPY NEW YEAR!!" The shouts and cheers are heard from inside. You and Mikasa collided together, lips locked in a kiss. At the exact moment, fireworks went off from the park nearby, lighting up the sky as you and Mikasa embrace each other, keeping each other warm against the cold of the winter night.
