Together We Stand

14 6 4

Gunshots ringing through the streets,
Funeral bells chiming in the air
As havoc reeks across our nation
And people are killed for reasons unfair.
Our people die for their gender identity,
Our people die for the color of their skin.
Good people are slaughtered for nothing more
Than being considered a 'sin'.

The blind hate that rules this country
Is nothing short of appalling.
It's inhumane and nothing has been done
By the people whose shots have been calling.
Women are raped, Asians are killed,
Blacks are left to die.
Gays are burned, children are taken,
And authorities don't bat an eye.

We need to rise up,
We need to unite,
We need to speak out
And put up a fight.
This cannot go on,
All this murder and hate-
We cannot give up
On this sin-tainted place.
On these sin-tainted people
And their sin-tainted motives-
These are all hate crimes
But the news won't even show us.

They call it 'bad days'
And they push it aside;
But when will they learn
That we won't abide?
We will stand up
And protect people of color-
The gays and the women
Don't have to suffer another:

Rape, lynching, burning,
Hate crime or shooting,
Murder, kidnap, degrading,
Sex trafficking or looting.

We can help stop this hate-
Together we can rise
To make Martin Luther King's dream a reality
And put an end to this so more good people don't die.
