The sound of footsteps approaching was heard and Eren's muffled voice projected through the hallway. "I sure am glad my parents are out of town."
"Eren! L-Let us out!" Armin begged desperately, weakly pounding his clenched fist against the door. The blonde felt as if he were going to melt from how much his face was burning.
"I'm sorry, what was that?" Eren responded in a teasing voice.
Even more footsteps approached. "Eren, you should go to bed. You need your rest for tomorrow. You two as well." Mikasa's soft voice carried into the hallway.
With an annoyed sigh, the brunette went along with Mikasa's suggestion. "Fine, fine. Probably should 'cause we gotta clean up before Mom and Dad get home." And with that, Eren retreated back into his room and closed the door for the night, taking with him any possibility of you and Armin leaving the room. The two of you would have to be roommates for the night.
"Well. Fuck." You said as you continued to hide your face away. The two of you stood there in defeat, taking in the melody to Careless Whisper.
"OW, OW, MIKASA!"
The shuffling of feet was heard.
"OK, OK, WE'LL GO TO SLEEP, BUT PLEASE LET GO OF OUR EARS!" The music was promptly cut off and Mikasa's door closed shut. It was finally quiet, and the two of you stood by the door, heart beats racing and minds in a whirl. This was by far the most elaborate prank that your friend group had played on you guys. Sure, most of the time they teased, but this time, they had come up with a solid plan to get the two of you together. Damn them and their meddling.
Even though you felt incredibly awkward, you decided that you needed to do something before things worsened. You moved your gaze up to Armin's flustered face and cut through the silence. "Hey, I'm really sorry about all of this."
Armin quickly looked up at you, feeling a bit guilty about how he had previously reacted . "Don't worry about it, Y/n, there's no need to apologize. I should say sorry. I came off as rude earlier when I said I couldn't possibly room with you. I-I just thought that it'd be a bit...a bit awkward. F-For the both of us." He looked away at that last part.
You sighed. "I know. But you know what? It's fine. Let's try not to make it awkward." You gave him a small smile which he returned. "I'll just sleep on the floor. Problem solved!" He frowned at that.
You briskly walked towards the bed and grabbed one of the pillows before tossing it onto the floor right next to the bed.
"Now just hold on a second." Armin protested.
You looked up at the blonde in confusion.
"I'll sleep on the floor." Armin stated confidently. He made his way over to where you had set the pillow and then he plopped himself on the floor, sitting criss cross applesauce and looking up at you defiantly with his arms crossed. "You take the bed."
You looked down at him in awe, your mouth slightly parted open. You rarely heard Armin take on such a stern tone with you. You found it incredibly nice of him to care enough about you to the point of giving up the soft mattress. You felt your heart do a somersault and felt a smile curling on your face. "You're sweet, Armin."
He blushed and looked down, suddenly dropping his stern act. He held back his tongue from saying anything too mushy, like the one thought that was currently jostling around in his mind ("I'd do anything for you, Y/n.")
Though you admired Armin's noble action, the thought of him sleeping on the floor still didn't sit right with you. So, to his surprise, you grabbed the other pillow on the bed and tossed it onto the floor as well.
"Wait, what are you doing?" He asked.
"Sorry, Min. What you did was nice, but you should still take the bed. You were here first, after all." You stretched your arms up towards the ceiling and yawned. You then fluffed up the pillow and laid down on your side, facing away from the blonde, who was busy pouting at you.
"Y/n, don't be stubborn. The floor will hurt your back, so just sleep on the bed, for pete's sake."
"Nope. Not a chance." You responded sleepily. You went silent and Armin worried that you would fall asleep before getting the chance to move onto the bed. So he changed tactics.
"Y/n, if you won't sleep on the bed, then I won't either."
You groaned in frustration at him. He was calling you stubborn, but he was being just as stubborn himself. You lazily flipped onto your other side and faced the blonde, shooting him a tired scowl. "Armin, this is ridiculous. Don't make me feel bad."
He scoffed at you. "Well, you're making me feel bad, too! I'm trying to be a gentleman here."
"Who gives a damn about being a gentleman. Women should be just as kind and chivalrous as men, so stop being so difficult and get your ass on the bed!" The two of you frowned at each other, the dim light from the lamp illuminating your unyielding faces. Armin was determined to give up the bed, and so were you.
This was going nowhere and you were getting increasingly sluggish. Why wouldn't the blonde just give up? It was admittedly endearing, but annoying.
"Armin, what are we doing? Wouldn't it be the same if we both slept on the floor near each other? I mean we might as well just-" You closed your mouth before you could finish your sentence. Surely, the exhaustion was clouding your judgment and almost causing you to say stupid things.
"W-What are you saying, Y/n?" He asked nervously. God, you felt like slapping yourself.
"N-nothing, just forget it. Goodnight." You buried your face into the cool fabric of the pillow, shielding yourself from curious, blue eyes. Armin, though feeling somewhat dazed from the thought of sharing the same bed, decided that maybe it would be best for the both of you to just share it. He bit his lip anxiously before speaking.
"Y/n..."
"Hmm..." You grunted.
"L-Let's just share the bed."
