Scorpius Malfoy

It was the first time in a long time in which the sun shined brightly and the weather was actually warm. There had been plenty of days during February and at the start of this month in which the sun teased us. We would see it from our windows and it would urge us to come and play outside. When we would get there, in our long sleeve shirts and thick pants, we could still feel the rushing chill of the wind. Even the ones like me, who wore jackets, were frigid.

I had thought today to be the same when Vee ran up to me in the Great Hall this morning and told me that it was sunny. I couldn't say no to her when she asked if we could go for a walk, especially when she was wearing a black mini-skirt and an oversized band-tee. The way her short hair bounced as she walked and the way one dimple formed when she smiled made her irresistible.

I took her soft porcelain hands into mine. Each nail on her finger was painted a pure black, complimenting her light complexion. I rubbed over her red-hued knuckles with my thumb, admiring every groove.

We sat on a hill that overlooked the gamekeeper's hut. Hagrid, I think his name was, but he never really came out much and when he did, he never said much either.

We leaned against a large stone monolith planted in the ground. She took a cigarette out from her tin and placed it carefully between her lips then took out a second one and handed it to me.

She looked up at me with soft eyes as I lit her cigarette with my lighter. I felt the heat of her smoke blow against the side of my face as I lit mine.

"You looked amazing." I smiled, letting out the ghost of smoke.

"Why thank you," she replied with her beaming smile. Her smile faded suddenly, as though a wave of sorrow washed over her. She looked down at her fingers where she fidgeted with the cigarette, not smoking it.

"You alright?" I asked, moving closer to her until the sides of our bodies were pressed up against one another.

She shook her head for a moment before speaking.

"I just. I just remembered what I needed to tell you." she sighed, her little hands shaking slightly as she placed the cigarette back between her lips.

"What?" I asked softly, placing my hand over hers.

"My mum told me my father's back in the rehabs so um she's leaving him for good this time. I think they're going to officially separate," she explained, the words sounding as though they stabbed her mouth each time she let one out. "That's what my mum gets for settling for a muggle. They don't know what else to do with themselves besides fucking narcotics," she added gratingly.

"Hey, you know I'm here for you, ok? And parents suck, family's just a load of bollocks. No one said you have to love them, it's just some made-up rule." I replied. "Family just leaves."

What was the point in loving anyone anyway when in the end, they just leave?

I thought for a moment, pondering my next words. She never liked to elaborate on such matters and all she had just told me was most likely all I was going to get out from her. I did wish she would, but I felt no desire to cause her to be upset with me right now.

"Want pumpkin juice?" I asked, getting up from the ground.

"I think breakfast is over," she replied, looking over at a group of students lingering by the entrance to the castle.

"We'll nick some from the kitchen then." I smiled mischievously. That would for sure cheer her up.

Her lips curled back upwards into a bright smile and she stood up from the ground, brushing the particles of dirt off the back of her skirt.
