Med student's guide to note making and studying!

Hello everybody! I am a third year medical student. So the things at my country are a little different than maybe yours but the basics of studying always the remains. This is what works for me and I have been doing this for years now. That's why I am able to reach where I am. Let's begin:

1. Never ever do studying on bed. You will end up sleeping. If you don't want to spend money in buying a new table and chair for studying, if you don't have one already. Try investing in bed-table. You can use it for various works.

2. Quality matters more than the quantity. I have seen people studying for hours and hours but still not achieving the desired results. It is because they don't filter out what is most important to know.

3. Note making is important. Hand-written are the best. When you write while studying, you have coordinated activity going on. Your brain cortex is working on your memory while simultaneously controlling your eyes and hand movements.

4. Note making is a process. You learn over time. You don't need to copy down everything word to word, otherwise you will end up with another book. Trust me, in MBBS you have 19 subjects to tackle and if we end up picking those thick textbooks everytime to revise, we are set to doom.

  - Try making diagrams and writing details in the labels. Never underestimate the visual memory.
- Make tables and charts, they help in revising more efficiently.
-Use different color pens while writing. Writing important points and stuff in different colour helps in better revision. I use highlighter when I am doing my third revision to highlight the extra important points.
- Use short forms for frequently used words and write a key to them on the first page of your notebook. Like I use MC for Most Common, c/f for clinical features, # for fracture etc. They are some very frequently used and stand short forms.
