Korako POV - 1752 words

"Wait, you're leaving?"

Kurapika smiles sheepishly, "Yeah. During the Final Phase of the Hunter Exam, Hisoka told me he had some information on the Phantom Troupe, so I'm following the lead he gave me. I'm going to need some money for the auction which is going to be held there, so I'm going to try to get a job near Yorknew."

I continue to stare, dumbfounded. He's really leaving? I don't want (Y/N) to feel my surprise, so I build a light barrier between us. She hasn't quite tried to do anything like it, yet, so I can still feel most of her emotions on the other side. She is, however, really good at hiding her feelings, for the most part... from everyone except me.

I'm glad I'm sitting down. Like I said to (Y/N), he's the only other person who's treated me like an equal, I hate to see him go.

"Can I visit?" I smirk, trying to play it off, but I really would like to see him some time.

"Yeah, of course," Kurapika smiles, seeing straight through me. He sits next to me, leaning against the seat, "Can I be honest with you for a second?"

"Of course. You can trust me," I say while leaning back next to him. We both stare at the ceiling for a second before he continues.

"I'm a little scared, you know. I haven't been outside of my clan for long, and going up against my biggest enemies and one of the most notorious bands of outlaws, ever? It's enough to shake anyone's confidence," Kurapika sighs.

"If anyone can do it, it's you. You've got resolve, potential, and your intent alone is enough to kill... but you also have heart. You're kind and compassionate. Most people would get lost in their hatred, but you've managed to hang onto your humanity," I give a half-hearted laugh, "So far."

He chuckles with me, "Thanks. I think."

I turn my head towards him to find he's already looking at me, eyes glistening. I clear my throat and quickly look back at the ceiling, "It's amazing to think how much we've all gone through in these past few years, these past few months, weeks even. If someone told me I'd be a human, I'd be bonded, I'd take part in the Hunter Exam—not that I knew what it was before—I would've said they were insane... if what I just said makes sense."

I feel his arm move beside me, "Yeah, I mean... so much has happened, but we're still practically strangers, if you think about it. Well, not Gon, but I don't know much about anyone else."

I smile, "The only person I know anything about, is (Y/N), and I guess Killua by extent."

I raise my arms above my head, turning my hands over in the air, "Now's a good a time as any. I'll go first... My name is Korako, I'm currently 18 years old... sort of. My mom passed away a couple weeks after I was born when one of James Leiker's gooneys attacked her for no reason. (Y/N) killed him and avenged her death. The rest is basically history. We didn't meet long before we met you guys. It was three days tops."

"Oh, wow."

"It's pretty much all there is to know about me."

"I'm Kurapika, 17, last surviving member of the Kurta clan. My family was slaughtered by the Phantom Troupe, so I'm seeking revenge. It's about all there is to know about me."

I close my eyes, "We're pretty basic, aren't we?"

"Basic? I'd say our lives are anything but basic."

"I guess... it's hard to say exactly what I mean, but I think you understand, right?"

"Yeah," he chuckles, "I do."
