Thud . . . thud . . .

Kara awoke to strange muffled noises, distinctly the conversations of people. She tried to focus, to hear what they were talking about, but . . . she couldn't understand.

She felt strange, stronger.

The man wearing a red cape walked over to her, "You're awake."

She shook her head, signalling that she couldn't understand what he was saying. He smiled, and translated the words for her to the best of his ability. This . . . person, this man wore a blue suit with the large 'S' symbol on his chest. Our family sigil, Kara realised, Stronger Together.

He knows about Krypton. No, he was Kryptonian. She could sense the connection. He was related to her, but how?

"Who are you?"

His smile faltered. He knew barely any Kryptonese, only enough to understand the basic words. After what seemed like minutes, the man said, "I'm Superman. I hail from Krypton but I grew up on Earth."

He was stumbling over his words, and his accent suggested that he could barely understand the language. Kara stared him over. He seemed really familiar, but the only other person who was sent here with her was . . .

"Kal."

His dark eyes flicked to her own, as if he recognised the name.

Trying to remember all that she could of the languages spoken on Earth, her head spun. English. It was one of Earth's most commonly used languages. She had studied before. In school, during her free time.

"Uhm . . . who are you? Where am I? Why do you wear the crest of the House of El?"

The man looked at her, then behind him, "I told you; I'm Superman. But you can call me Clark. Clark Joseph Kent."

"How long ago did you reach here?"

"25 years ago. When my Earthen parents found me, I was just a baby. Swaddled in a red cloth," he gestured to his flowing red cape.

He continued, "Apparently I had escaped the death of my birth planet Krypton."

Krypton was destroyed 25 years ago? It couldn't be, she just arrived.

"I found a message in my pod, saying that my older cousin was going to look after me. May I ask: are you Kara Zor-El?"

She nodded. She recognised him now. The dark hair from her uncle Jor-El. Those deep blue eyes that were the trademark of their family. The strong, broad shoulders. This wasn't just any Kryptonian.

This was her cousin. This was Kal.

She looked at him, at the couple behind her. The couple who had a brunette daughter.

"Okay, Kara. This is Jeremiah Danvers, that's Eliza Danvers. That's their daughter, Alexandra, or Alex Danvers. They will be taking care of you on Earth."

Kara turned and faced the people that Kal was referring to. The blond woman and the dark-haired man, with a brunette girl with shoulder-length hair looked at her. They were going to be her new parents. Her Earth parents.

Kal turned to look at them, "Take care of her, educate her, and when she comes of age, come visit the Kents."

"Thank you, Clark," Eliza said, "we will."

--------------------

For the next few days, the Danvers taught her many things. The history, geography, and certain languages of Earth. Kara grew closer with them, beginning to tell them everything of Krypton.

Kara knew that she would never entirely fit in here. She had been getting distrustful and hateful glares from Alex. They weren't close yet. She wasn't sure they would ever be. Kara learnt about Earth, so much more in depth than any of the books she had ever read.

The Danvers were exceptionally surprised by how fast of a learner Kara was. She picked up things and ideas that some people take even years to learn.

They decided it was time to tell Kara the truth.

One evening, after Alex had gone to bed, they called Kara to the living room.

"Kara, do you know why we called you down here?"

A shake of her head.

"Krypton was your planet, right? Your home?"

A nod.

"Well, it has been destroyed. From what we know, it's been completely decimated. You will have to stay on Earth. At least, until and unless you plan to move to another planet."

Kara's eyebrows creased in answer. Her planet. Krypton.

Gone.

Her breath hitched.

"We've analysed your physiology, and it seems that you are practically indestructible, and-"

"And I have other powers that I receive when I'm under Earth's yellow sun. My parents. They told me. Flying and super-strength and all that . . . "

"That's why we've bought you these," Jeremiah said, handing her a pair of glasses, "They're lined with lead. To dampen your powers slightly."
[A/N: I'm not following the storyline of the show. This is my own. Sorry if you don't really like it.]

"We're going to send you to school with Alex. Starting next year. But we will be taking you out of the house more. We don't want you getting too uncomfortable."

Kara only nodded.

Alex, in bed, awoke to the rustling of covers. As soon as she discovered Kara had been called downstairs, she crept to the side of the stairs, just outside her door, straining to hear what her parents were talking to the alien about.

She was horrified. That alien? Staying with them?

She was not welcome. Not in her life.

Why were her parents spending so much time with her? They barely had any time for Alex. She seethed. She despised that Kryptonian. She hated her so, so much.

One month later, they brought Kara to Smallville. Kara could feel the glare of the blazing sun. Alex, holding Jeremiah's hand, bore a hateful glare. She admired the Man of Steel as a young girl, but since Kara entered her life, she began disliking him more and more. Why did he have to bring her here? Why to this family?

She was never going to love an alien.

Three raps on the door.

They smiled as they saw who received them. Martha Kent.

"May I . . . help you?"

They had a big house. Larger than what Kara had expected.

The family tried to explain the reason they were there to Martha. Little did they know Alex had wandered off.

Kara looked across the yard. A scream sounded.

"ALEX!"
