Chapter Fourteen

"How about we go do something fun?" I suggested

"I'd like that"

We walked to Matt's car and I got in the driver's seat.

I drove us to an arcade that was around the corner from my house.

It was kind of crowded and I could tell Matt was nervous being around a big crowd of people.

I grabbed his hand and gave it a squeeze.

I got us some tokens and started playing games. Matt wasn't really playing he was just watching me.

I caught him smiling a few times.

"I'm going to the bathroom quick, I'll be right back." I said

I went to the bathroom. After I was done I went back to find Matt, but he wasn't where I left him.

I looked all over the arcade but I couldn't find him anywhere.

I walked outside and saw Matt sitting on a bench kind of shaking.

"Hey, what's wrong?" I asked

"N-Nothing."

"No more secrets Matt, just tell me."

"I just have panic attacks when I'm alone in public a-a-nd I'm s-sorry I ruined y-your day"

"You didn't ruin my day, just breathe a minute."

He sat there taking deep breaths while I rubbed his back.

"Better?" I asked

"Yeah, thank you." he smiled

"I'm going to take you home so you can get some sleep"

Another week has passed and we were on winter break. Matt didn't go back to school the past week. He starts again after break. I haven't seen Matt because Chad wanted me to focus on school.

I texted Matt asking if he wanted to come over and he said sure.

I was waiting downstairs when the bell rang. I opened the door and Matt was there.

He came in and Chad walked into the room.

"Matt this is Chad, Chad this is Matt."

They shook hands and then Matt and I went upstairs.

We both sat down on my bed. That's when I saw a bruise on the side of his face.

"Matt, where did that bruise come from?" I asked

"My dad, he came back a few nights ago."

"You could have called me. You should have. Did you cut again?"

"No, I told myself I had to stay strong for you."

I smiled at his response. I noticed the bags under his eyes.

"You look tired."

"I haven't slept in days. I'm too scared to sleep."

"Then that's what we're gonna do right now. Let's take a nap."

"We don't have too Soph."

"I want too."

I lifted the covers and we both went under. I cuddled up into his chest which I think surprised him at first but then I felt his arms wrap around me.

I closed my eyes and started to drift off.

"I'm pretty sure you're the only reason I'm still breathing. I love you Soph."
