Michael:
Michael waved off the cab, watching for a few moments as it drove away before turning to his house.
'My home.' he reminded himself, warmth blossoming in his chest as he hefted his bags over his shoulder and began to walk to the front door. He had told his wife and their baby girl that he wouldn't be home until the following evening, so he wasn't expecting them to be awake for his surprise late night arrival. Silently unlocking the front door, he crept in the entrance, fumbling around for a few seconds before locating the light switch and flooding the hallway with light.
Moments after he did, he heard a rustling and muffled thuds upstairs, before a voice he hadn't heard in person for nearly 4 months called out
"Hello? Who's there?! I have a gun!"
*******
You lift your umbrella (not exactly a gun, but the intruder doesn't need to know that), trying to steady your pounding heart as you wait for a response to your challenge.
"I'm gone for months and I'm greeted by my wife threatening me with a gun. That's nice."
You drop your makeshift weapon, running to the stairs to check that your imagination isn't deceiving you. Sure enough, Michael is standing at the bottom of the stairs, with his bags at his feet and a sly smirk on his face.
Your breath catches in your throat and you nearly trip as you run down the stairs and into his open arms.
"Oh my god I thought you weren't coming until tomorrow!" you mumble into his shoulder, trying to hold him closer than physically possible.
"I was going to surprise you." he admits, his hands sliding underneath the hem of your sleeping shirt. He kisses you for a long moment, and you're only too happy to oblige him.
"I might have shot you on accident, you know that?" you check, pulling away to look up at him.
"With what, your rainbow umbrella?" he grins, already aware of your chosen form of weapon.
He pulls you close again, mumbling "I think I'm going to cry."
"Aww no why would you cry?" you coo, rubbing his broad back.
"Because I really want to throw you on a bed and fuck you but I'm way too tired." he responds unexpectedly, a cheeky smile on his face.
"You little shi-"
"Mommy?" a small voice calls from the top of the stairs.
You pause in berating Michael, and both of you turn to see your 3 year old daughter Lucy standing at the top of the stairs with her stuffed lion.
Your heart melts a little as you see your husband break into the most massive grin, crouching down and exclaiming "Hey Lucy Goosey! Guess who's back home!"
Your daughters eyes go wide as saucers, and with a squeal loud enough to wake the neighborhood, she launches herself into Michael's arms, giggling as he swings her high in the air.
"Daddy your cactus is tickling me." she squirms away from his kisses, rubbing his scruffy beard (or cactus, as she likes to call it because of its prickliness) with her small chubby hand.
"Then it's doing exactly what it's supposed to." he laughs, playfully rubbing it against her again.
"Mommy said you were coming tomorrow, we made ourselves pretty for you!" she exclaims, putting her painted nails in front of his eyes.
"Oh wow, they look great! And what did you do to make yourself pretty for me?" Michael asks you with a smirk, shifting Lucy to one arm so he can pull you in with the other.
You go on tiptoes to murmur in his ears, raising your eyebrows as his eyes go wide.
"Alright baby, let's get you back to bed. Daddy's tired." Michael announces suddenly, already climbing the stairs with her.
You grin, shaking your head as you follow your husband and daughter, albeit at a much slower pace.
Michael is already tucking her back into her spiderman covers (her own choosing) when you come in but then she looks at him with with her best puppy dog expression, courtesy of her Uncle Calum, and asks "Can you sleep with me Daddy? Please?"
You laugh at the look of anguish on Michael's face as he glances back at you, but then he sighs and agrees "Of course I can sweetheart. Let me just get ready for bed okay?"
She nods happily, snuggling into her blankets as Michael exits the room.
"Come on." he demands, dragging you to the bedroom.
"Lucy's waiting for you!" you argue, even as you let him throw you back on the bed.
"We'll be quick." he mutters, tearing off your shirt.
He lets out a long sigh as he looks down at you. "Shit. You get more beautiful every time I leave."
"Welcome home." you greet softly, pulling him close.

Luke:
You wave good bye to your friends at the doorstep, watching them drive out of sight before sighing contentedly as you turn around. You move to open the door but to your surprise it flies open before you have a chance.
You gasp as your five year old daughter drags you inside, squealing unintelligible words as she closes the door behind you.
"What are still doing up, sweetheart? Where's daddy?" you ask, crouching down to steady her.
It's only as you take a closer look at her that you realize her blonde hair has been put into 2 perfect pigtails, although the makeup clumsily applied on her face has no where near the same level of finesse. She's also in her favorite costume.
"Daddy and me are being princesses! Well, I'm Princess Cinderella, and he's my fairy god-mother." she explains.
At that moment, Luke comes running down the stairs and you have to cover your mouth to not burst out laughing when you see him. He's somehow managed to squeeze himself into one of Athena's tutus, although you can already see he's already stretched it terribly, and he has a pair of pink wings that, on his broad back, look like they belong to a dwarf. What really gets to you though, is the lipstick that has been smeared across his lips and the obscene blue eyeshadow that is barely in the general vicinity of his eyes.
As soon as he sees you, he slows his approach, face blushing bright red.
"Hey babe! You're back sooner than I expected!" he coughs, awkwardly scratching the back of his head with a... wand?
Seeing you staring, he quickly stuffs the magical accessory in the pocket of his jeans.
"Err Athena, baby, why don't you go set up a tea party? Fairy godmother is hungry." Luke urges, sending his daughter off to the kitchen.
She nods happily, running off and leaving you two alone. The second she's gone, you burst out laughing, and although Luke struggles to look annoyed, he eventually joins in, knowing how silly he looks.
"Oh my god, honey what happened! It's like 1 am, I expected you two to be asleep!" you giggle.
"So did I." he grumbled good naturedly, pulling you in for a kiss.
"Ew, ew no. Not with those purple lips." you squirm away.
He pouts, and you shake your head, leading him to the upstairs bathroom. He leans against the sink there, watching as you busy yourself with make up remover and wipes.
"Did you have a good time?" he asks curiously.
"Oh no, you first." you insist, turning his face to the side so you can start removing the make up.
He sighs, explaining "I made myself some coffee since I was staying up late writing, but then one of our managers called and I left the room. I come back 20 minutes later and Atty had drained the whole pot."
"Uh oh." you realize, wiping away the last of the eyeshadow and starting on his lips. Athena was an energetic child even by normal 5 year old standards, and combining that with a pot of caffeine was a recipe for disaster.
"Yeah. Then she just flat out couldn't go back to sleep. So I ended up playing fairy god mother for the night" he finishes, curtsying playfully with his pink tutu.
"Well. I give you an A+ on her hair, Fairy Godmother, I've taught you well."
"Yeah, she liked it too." he laughs.
"Now what I'm wondering is how many guys did you have to flash your ring finger at tonight to make them go away. Because honestly wearing this dress, I wouldn't blame them for trying." he reveals, grabbing your hips so he can kiss you with his lipstick free lips.
"It was more like my middle finger." you correct.
He chuckles, sweeping back your hair. "That''s my girl."
"Is that a wand in your pocket or are you happy to see me?" you wonder, looking down.
"Both." he grins cheekily, pulling the wand out of his pocket and setting it on the sink.
"Mommy! Daddy! Tea is ready!" Athena's chirpy voice calls from the stairs.
"I'm tired of playing Cinderella." she announces as you trot down the stairs behind Luke.
"Me too. Let's just drink our tea and head to bed, okay?" Luke suggests.
She nods, and goes to the living room floor where she has set up the couch pillows and plastic tea cup set to her liking.
You sit with your feet tucked under you, playing the part of polite tea party guest as you fondly watch your daughter pour invisible tea.
"Princess, I think I'm out of tea." Luke explains, holding out his blue cup for more.
"Daddy I told you, we're not playing Cinderella anymore." she explains impatiently.
He sets down his cup and grabs Athena, cuddling him to her as he explains "But you'll always be my princess, Princess."
She giggles as he lays her against the floor, and you both proceed to tickle her until she's squealing for you to stop.
"Love both my Princesses." Luke adds while you're all laying on the floor catching your breath.
You grin, leaving over to kiss him. You pause as you look over at Athena, but it looks like she's already fallen asleep, and you turn back to Luke, asking mischievously, "You thinking what I'm thinking?
"Definitely." he nods, pulling you in for another kiss.
Two minutes later you're both blissfully asleep on the carpet, Luke's arms wrapped around both you and Athena in the warmest of embraces.
