Chapter 46

"It seems like they were looking for something because their scent is all over your room" Embry said as Embry, Emmett and I stood in my room. "I don't understand what. What could I possibly have that a vampire would want?" I questioned. "I don't know either" Embry said as we all left my room and walked downstairs.

"Where did this person enter the house from?" I questioned. "The scent traveled through the backyard into the woods so I assume through there" Emmett replied. "How could they enter the house without breaking any windows or door handles?" Embry said as he turned to me. "I don't kn-...oh shit" I cursed.

"What's wrong?" Emmett said as he turned to me. "There's a spare key to the back door under the mat. Danielle and Craig hid a spare key for that door and not the front because someone broke in a few years ago using the spare key to the front door" I explained as I ran a hand through my hair in frustration.

"Have you used that key before?" Embry asked and I nodded. "Yeah. Last week I forgot my house keys and used the back door instead" I replied. "Whoever it was must've been hiding in the woods watching you and saw where the spare key was hidden" Embry suggested. "Oh my God. You mean I've been like a sitting duck?!" I said panicked.

"Hey, hey shhhh it's alright. I'm not going to let anyone hurt you baby. I'm not going to leave your side" Emmett said as he pulled me into his arms holding me. "Yeah. And you have us too. With the Cullens and the pack, no one will be able to be within 10 miles of you without one of us noticing" Embry reassured and I nodded.

In the days that followed, the pack and the Cullen's...tolerated each other to say the least. Emmett never left my side unless I forced him to go hunt and when that would happen, he would make sure I was at the Cullen's house, protected. "Babe I'll be fine. Go hunt with your brothers" I said to Emmett as we stood in the living room.

"Ok. I'll be back in a few hours ok?" He said as he held my hands and I nodded. "Don't rush because of me. Hunt until you're at your full strength" I said and he smirked before leaning down pressing his lips to mine. I felt Emmett wrap his arms around my waist pulling me into him as our kiss deepened before he pulled away.

"Ok maybe rush a tiny whiney bit" I said and he chuckled. "I'll see you later babe" Emmett said before leaving the living room. I watched from the window as he playfully shoved Jasper before they all disappeared into the woods within the blink of an eye. I let out a small sigh before walking down the hall to Rosalie's room.

I gently knocked on the door and heard a "Come in". I opened the door and saw Rosalie exit her closet holding a whole bunch of clothing. "Hey" I said as I walked in and she placed the clothes on the carpeted floor. "What are you doing?" I questioned as I sat on the bed. "Cleaning out my closet for Alice's next clothing haul. She makes us do it every few months to keep up with the latest trends" Rosalie replied and I nodded as I gave a small chuckle.

"Feel free to take anything you like" Rosalie called out from the closet and I walked over to the pile. All of it was brand stuff. I saw a whole bunch of Prada, Gucci, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, Christian Louboutin, Chanel, you name it, it was on the ground. I bent down grabbing a few jackets and some nice shirts along with a nice dress I could wear to graduation.

I placed my items on the bed and admired them. "Hey Mal, here" Rosalie said as she exited the closet holding what looked to be a pair of black designer jeans. "You can have these if you'd like. I bought them a month ago and they've never looked good on me but I think they'll look amazing on you especially with those legs" Rosalie said and I blushed.

"Thanks" I said as I took them. "Hey Rose?" I said and she turned to me. "How come, you treat me better than Bella?" I questioned and she sighed as she walked over to her window. "You and I in a way have know what it feels like, to lose everything you've ever cared about. You know what that pain feels like. It's like you blink once and everything is gone and no matter how hard you cry, it's never coming back. Bella doesn't know what that feels like. She has everything that you and I would kill for. Parents, the ability...to have a child and it's like she doesn't realise it or appreciate it. It infuriates me" Rosalie replied.

"I understand that in a way. She doesn't realise how lucky she is not only to have a mother but her dad too" I said as I walked over, standing beside her. "Emmett did tell me you met up with your father for the first time. How was it?" Rosalie said as she turned to me. "I'd be happy never to see him again to be quite frank with you. He left me $10,000" I replied

"What are you going to do with it?" Rosalie asked and I sighed. "I don't know. I was planning on giving it to Craig and Danielle as a thank you for everything they've done for me because I don't want it. It feels like dirty money to me and I don't want anything to do with it" I replied and Rosalie nodded. "Do you think you could forgive him? Your father?" Rosalie asked.

"I don't know" I said as I shook my head slightly. "Did you mom forgive him?" Rosalie said and I sighed before nodding. "Yeah she did. She forgave him a long time ago" I replied. "Maybe one day, you will do the same. Trust me, I know how hard forgiveness is but sometimes, it helps take the weight off your shoulders" Rosalie said and I gave a small smile.
