****15.4 - Xan****

Tuesday

Xan woke up with a start.

He was sweating, and although he didn't remember his dream, he knew it had been a bad one. He had a distinct feeling that he was being watched. Maybe it was time to tell someone about it.

His left arm hurt intolerably, and he felt dazed. It took him a few minutes to get himself out of bed. He felt uneasy. He slowly got ready for school, wondering if the way he felt was normal.

I should ask Vaughn, he thought.

Xan left his cello at home and carried only his school bag to take his lunch and a single DigiBook. He would have to skip music classes. He could barely lift his arm.

As he went into the kitchen, he spotted Royd.

"Royd!" he ran to him.

His older brother turned around. "Xan!" he hugged him tightly.

"Ow! Ow, ow, ow..." Xan screamed in pain.

"What's wrong?" Royd let him go scared.

"My arm hurts," Xan mumbled in pain.

"Oh! I forgot. I'm sorry, Xan."

School was tough. Xan felt like he was going through the day in a haze. His mind felt foggy, and he nearly slept in Mr. Roan's class. But Mr. Roan didn't chide him; in fact, he let Xan sleep for half his class.

"Are you alright?" Vaughn asked during lunch.

"Yes, just a little tired."

Vaughn looked concerned.

At the end of school, Vaughn left for the Music Academy, and Xan walked home with the twins. His parents, Royd and Eun, had decorated the house. He was glad that Royd was still at home.

"What time are Vaughn and his family coming?" Hei Ran asked.

"Around seven..." Xan answered, popping candy into his mouth.

"Don't finish those!" Eun yelled at the twins, who each grabbed a hand full of candy and ran to their rooms.

"You look tired." his mother told him. "Are you okay?"

"I'm good." He lied. He didn't want to ruin the party they had prepared for him. He was feeling worse now than in the morning, but he didn't say a word.

He took a bath and changed into different clothes. He looked at himself in the mirror, he definitely looked tired, and there were beginnings of dark circles around his eyes. Was he supposed to feel this sick? He didn't remember Vaughn being this tired after his Medicine Administration.

He yawned as he made his way to the backyard. The place was decorated with small hover lights, and a small table was placed in the center with food on it. Xan smiled as he looked around. It was perfect.

Vaughn and his family arrived just as it got dark. Everyone gathered outside, and his mother brought a cake. Xan blew out the candles wishing for Vaughn. He cut the cake, and dinner was served.

Xan was feeling more and more uncomfortable by the minute, but he hid it. Everyone was together after such a long time, and they were having fun. Vaughn's siblings were close with his, and it seemed like their parents had known each other all their lives, although they had only met when Vaughn and Xan had become close friends.

"About your present...." Vaughn started.

"I don't see it," Xan's voice was soft.

"Of course, you don't," Vaughn smirked.

Xan felt nauseous and slightly dazed.

"Xan?" Vaughn's voice was laced with worry.

"I need to use the bathroom."

Xan hurried into the house and to his room. He didn't bother closing the bathroom door; he vomited into the washbasin. There was blood mixed in it. He cleaned up and washed his face starting to worry. Why had there been blood?

He went back to his room and stared at himself in the mirror. He looked appallingly sick.

"Xan?" Vaughn's voice came behind him. "What's wrong?"

Xan turned around and smiled, "I'm okay, just feeling a little uneasy." He omitted the part where he vomited blood. "Anyway, where's my gift? I gave you the party."

Vaughn smiled half-heartedly. "I came to give it to you, but Xan, you look terrible. Are you sure you're okay?"

"I'm not sure." He admitted finally. "Did you feel sick after the medicine administration?" his voice was now barely a whisper.

"No. My arm hurt horribly. But that's about it. Xan, you look sick."

Xan felt sick; he felt horribly ill. He took a step towards Vaughn, and then everything went black. He fell to the floor.

"Xan!" Vaughn's frightened voice was the last thing he heard.
